Rob Mullens and Robert Johnson (not rojo) are making this hire. Not Vin. Not sure why everyone acting like Vin is still involved with UO track.
Vanhoy will be the hire, although Jon Marcus would intrigue me if I were the one making the decision.

One other person will help with the hire: Phil Knight.

They're going to hire another sprint coach for the distance programs.
Jonathan Marcus?
Get real.

The only thing that makes Tyson qualified to Coach at Oregon is his disregard for NCAA violations.
Just wait, I'll be back baby.

Was that a lame attempt at a joke, or did Tyson ever commit NCAA violations, something I've never, ever heard? Please back up your assertion.

You are leaving out Mike Hickey, who currently coaches Alexa Efraimson. She has had an impressive career. Additionally, he took McKayla Fricker from 2:06 to 2:00.8 in one year. Also coached a guy who made the 2005 US Cross Country team, Paul Kezes. Strong ties to the NW.
Does he just coach Alexa now? It would be tough to extrapolate the talents of a coach based on one athlete. It sounds like he helped out Fricker but what does it mean that she is no longer with him?
Means he's a total A-hole.
Also, his one and only athlete missed finals today.... in an off year. There's limited evidence supporting the notion that he's a good coach.
NO WAY could he coach at Oregon.
Maybe she should have examined her coaching options before leaving. Bob Williams is in Portland Oregon and has coached some great 800m guys. Or even Rob Conner at UP, another great coach. He would coach circles around her current coach.
Check the times, slower every year, like many others coached by JM. Hype machine!
Buzz in Des Moines is Nike will force Alexa to run for Jerry Schumacher and train with Shelby Houlihan. Hickey will be a coach without a runner.

Maybe because Vin is still listed as an Associate Athletic Director tasked with the vision of the track and field teams...
http://goducks.com/staff.aspx?staff=9Maybe she will run as well as Kate Grace has run this year or Colleen Quiqly or Josh Thompson. Great coaching! Took an Olympian and made her into an average, weak looking runner.

This is Vanhoys position to lose. Or the the VTech guy
vanhoy is incredibly underqualified. he gets lucky walking into good situations, and makes a living poaching athletes from other schools.
but with the new transfer rule, all he has to do is poach and he has experience with that.
but then again, Joe Franklin from New Mexico is the best at that.
So I say 50-50 vanhoy or franklin

Agree
Whoever takes hat Jon is going to have to meet with Alberto and pass his slimy sports ‘psych’ guys test. This hire has SLMIE written all over it.
Just know that the next coach is going down a very dark alley...admittedly they will have NIKE flashlights but it’s DARK

You sound mad...you also have no idea what you are talking about. There's a pretty big difference in "poaching" versus receiving a transfer request. Name one successful program that hasn't taken transfers.
THIS JUST IN: Having an established program and successful coaching methods gain attraction from transfers. SHOCKER!!!
In the last 10 years (20 NCAA XC Championships), only 6 teams won without a transfer on their top-7. That's including grad student transfers and international transfers.
Men:
2015 - Syracuse (had transfer Palamar on roster, but not impactful on XC).
2008 - Oregon (although did have Galen Rupp, who happened to pay back Nike all that money)
Women:
2014 - Michigan State
2009-2010 - Villanova
2008 - Washington
And interestingly enough, the runner-up team in all of those years had a transfer in their top-7. Seems more feasible on the women's side with freshmen able to make a bigger impact right away. On the men's side it has only been done with transcendent talent coming to the school (Galen Rupp and Justyn Knight).
So seems like coaches interested in getting transfers are interested in winning and being good.

This is incredibly interesting. Thanks for doing the grunt work in looking that all up. I agree it’s tough on the men’s side, physical maturity ins men’s distance running is huge and if you can get one of these 23 year old 5th year transfers it makes a huge difference
In high school there are always cases of athletes transferring to another school district since that district is good in the kids sport. No different collegiately. When a team wins a NCAA Championship athletes from around the country see that, and if they are unhappy at their current school want to transfer. It has been going on decades. I read something that this year there will be 300 DI men's basketball players that will transfer, mostly due to playing time. What do they think will happen at their new school - they get more playing time and then they will go to the NBA (pipe dream). Cross Country and track is no different. Oregon, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Texas, etc are all in the boat that good athletes will look at their program as a destination. Don't blame these coaches for the fact that they work hard, and have successful programs. And lets cut out the bullcrap about "poaching". The only collegiate coaches who ever use that term are ones that quite frankly no one can stand and are usually not successful.
