The one person the Powells should hire from the current staff is pole vault coach Pat Licari, who was at UW before Greg Metcalf. The only thing against Licari is that he was on Metcalf's staff. The other person they ought to consider is former WSU assistant Mark Macdonald to coach the hurdles. I don't think they need a third paid distance coach on their staff. I'm still trying to figure out why Metcalf needed three paid distance coaches on his staff.
The Powells need to restore some credibility within the Washington high school coaching community that the Huskies lost in the last few years, especially when they could've gotten James Mwaura IMHO.
What will be interesting is how the makeup of the team will be after the 2018-19 season when they get their own recruits in. Will they go the Oklahoma State/Portland/Gonzaga all distance route, or will they build a team using the same model Vin had at Stanford & Oregon?
