More great hires by AD Jen Cohen. This is huge for UW, arguably the best track coaching hires in their history. There is plenty of D1 talent in that state plus California, but most of the coaching hires over the years have been less than impressive.

I second this... and I add to it to say, if I were an AD at any division 1 University I wouldn’t give Greg Metcalf the time of day. He should be shunned from coaching stay away from this guy

Word on the street is UO already sniffing around Ryan Vanhoy from Ole Miss. Can recruit (to Mississippi) and coach. Has connections behind the scenes with Nike. Steered Engels to NOP.
Is it me or does Ryan Vanhoy really love posting about himself?
Yeah, does UW really need more distance coaches with 2 Powells? There is a cap on the total number of coaches, you know. Don't need any more!

Powells: UW
Vanhoy: rumored as a consideration for UO position vacated by Powell’s
Please don’t be an idiot

Oh, sorry, Ducks Fan meant Vanhoy to Oregon. Never mind. And quit posting, Ryan!
Congrats to Maurica & Andy. I won't be surprised if Oregon/Nike begins looking for a Femald distance coach to takeover the program. Coach Lehman-Winters at U. of San Francisco has to be be at the top of the list. Hayward needs a strong female presence to takeover what Maurica is leaving behind. Welcome to Hayward Field Helen!
According to their current staff roster at UW there are 5 full time coaches...Adding the Powells makes 7 which implies someone else is also leaving?

Listen, as of right now.. their are two paid coaches on UW staff.. the Powells. It doesn’t take a genius to know that they are cleaning house. All former UW coaches are out

Yeah, that's what I said...someone else is leaving.
I don't understand why letsrun is celebrating this move. It's just another example of the liberal agenda infecting all aspects of modern life.
Let me explain.
In the 1950's (Golden Age of Unites States of America) people (conservative Christians) respected traditions and preserving the status quo (nuclear families, gay marriage, etc). These days, people have no regard for traditions or respecting their elders or their God-Given Genders (transgenderism).
Modern people are driven primarily by money (sex). I guarantee that they are removing their children from day care where they have built lasting friendships with the other toddlers for the sole purpose of getting a bigger $$$$$.
This move is decidedly anti-american and despicable. The men and women of Oregen (two genders) are undoubtedly extremely upset, and Washington will be worse off with coaches driven only by numbers.
Is Metcalf's legacy the carnage left behind or the few success stories over the 20+ year career? Finally, UW will be on the map.

I bet everyone who defended Metcalf and criticized feels dumb right now. This is a massive upgrade.UWn can attract the top coaching talent available, why would they keep around Metcalf who has been causing headaches for a while?
Calling the kids who reported him snowflakes, criticism the administration caving in to the complaints, etc. is foolish. The AD knew she could easily bring in someone better and delivered. Big time move by the AD.
I guarantee you nobody on the team who liked Meltcalf is complaining about his departure now!
Through the long, contentious battle over the future of Hayward Field, I've discussed with friend what the implications might to Oregon track athletes and coaches. I'm thinking of Kate Murphy, for example -- someone who came to Oregon with surgery and a long recovery looming and who now will never get a chance to race again at the REAL Historic Hayward Field. The construction will be a miserable burden foisted upon all these kids.
And now the Powells are fleeing, as they have every right to do. Some of these kids, like Kate, will lose the coach they specifically came to Oregon to be trained by. Truly the Powells deserve congratulations, but there's no escaping the fact that such a move comes at a fairly steep price for some, not all, Oregon cross country and T&F athletes.
I really do wonder whether the Powells are departing because they're sick of the imposition that construction would make on the teams, even if it can yet evolve into a solution which saves some of the historical feel of the stadium. My guess, and that's all it is: the Powells were not willing to endure the drama any longer, or any construction headaches.
I feel bad for all the athletes, and that includes the incoming class -- Brodey Hasty, et al.
And whatever Hayward Field morphs into, Oregon track and XC will not disappear, in the long run. I can guess that a lot of kids will be thrilled by the New Hayward Field, history be damned. It will be a better facility overall, just shockingly devoid of much of the history of the place.
Let's see which athletes end up jumping ship now.

I could see Kate Murphy moving to UW. She basically got lost in crowd at Oregon , even with surgery in all after a great career . The Powell’s are great at luring transfers from other schools . Look at the women’s roster especially . Lot of transfers !
Magness to Oregon on the condition it becomes a sketchers sponsored team with cheserek assistant coach

They all are. Everyone on the staff their contract is contingent upon Metcalf's. It is a full clean house.

Chris Fox, OU wanted him anyways.
Chris Fox could be a good hire for Oregon. Coaches like Fox and Portland's Rob Connor are able to develop runners coming out of HS who are very good but not necessarily elite.
Oregon in the Lananna/Powell era have not developed your average blue-chip national class HS runner. This lack of development is why they generally underperform in XC.
Oregon has done well with exceptional talent like Rupp, Centrowitz, Cheserek and Wheating. They've done well with established transfers like Jenkins and Dunbar who fell into their lap (Would Dunbar have been as successful at the NCAA level had he not gone to Portland first? I doubt it.) . AJ Acosta and Mac Fleet had their moments, but I wonder if they could do it over would they go to college elsewhere.
Best of luck to UO in their search.

If they are good at luring transfers that means it’s going to be even more cutthroat at UW than before.
