Here is a nice profile of Mwaura from November.

Must be a citizen, so that’s good.
Legit American
It all started with soccer.
Mwaura (pronounced em-wara) was born in Kenya, but his family moved to Tacoma when he and younger sister were toddlers. His mother, Sophia, played volleyball and his father, Stephen, played soccer at Kenya Polytechnic University and James followed in those footsteps at Tacoma’s First Creek Middle School.
A friend persuaded him to try football and wrestling. He was a kicker and defensive back until his eighth grade year, and he won a 125-pound middle school wrestling title.

It's too bad that the Zags don't have an indoor or outdoor track. James could definitely use one. Perhaps they practice somewhere else?
Gonzaga trains at Spokane Community College. Not a great track but less then a 3 mile run from GU. Also, Henry Rono ran 13:22 in a snowstorm there.

Nope, #10 performer.
No better than #13 performance.
Big deal. Dathan Rtzenhein ran 14:10 in cross country in a Michigan Blizzard.
Two scrawny white WA HS guys ran faster for 2 miles and 5000 meters in the '60s.
Yeah, yeah James runs 14:00, blah, blah, blah. What about Javier Munõz-Maines?! I heard this dude was down at an open meet in Tulsa ready to go 3:36 in the middle of a thunderstorm before a blot of lightning struck right behind him at 1250 meters. Kinda poetic really, if he woulda been running slower, maybe that bolt hits him. Zags are lucky to have this pair.

No way to verify those performances or the accuracy of the tracks they were achieved on.
So not true. Gerry Lindgren [8:40 &13:44] and Rick Riley [8:48 & 14:00] are easily verifiable.

You're joking, right?
I view 14 minutes as a benchmark for an NCAA Division freshman in terms of rising to the level of D1 competition. All the better this young man made it after his senior year of high school. No need for anyone to be negative.
14 minutes is good wrote: No need for anyone to be negative.Nah, just other D1 programs that wished they could have recruited him to their schools.
