I really do not care if athletes miss nationals in an off year.
Does it really matter if they do? They're still competing in big races.

does anyone really see the usa championships as anything other than trials to WC or OG? Otherwise who cares? I would rather watch stanford/sac/penn where at least you are getting a lot of runners chasing times vs a pointless win.
Yes. I do. I care about who is the best in the country and like to watch races where the result means something. One could argue the chase for times is just as pointless.
I'd much rather see people compete for titles.
It looks like others won't be there as well.
NO Felix, No Delilah Muhammed, No Brittney Reese as well.

Which of the people not competing at Nationals are you a fan of? How many of them have you started threads about trying to tear them down?
There is truly no incentive for most established athletes to go to Nationals this year, which is exactly why they aren’t going. Have a legitimate purse up for grabs and they’ll be there, otherwise it’s a waste of time.

Dude, It'a an off year. We just had indoor championships, WC last year, and the year before that Indoor Championships and the Olympics. All of that is going to repeat itself starting next year, so let runners relax this year. You expect athletes past 30 years old to compete in everything, every year?
It's more about keeping the body healthy and being prepared for the top, top races.
Let the young, up and coming athletes showcase the future. Let them make a name for themselves, and they will. USAs will be about Lyles and Syd.
i would rather see runners compete for titles but I doesn't seem to be working right now. For the longest time I thought the meet was just trials for WC OG. Didn't even understand why they had the meet in the off years. I think it could be made more important with a point system leading up to it, or bigger purse for the wins. I will pay attention to mens and womans 1500. Stephanie Brown as dark horse, maybe young Aragon will do her papa proud? Who doesn't want to see Sorantos come back and win a title? So there are some stories here.

Hey now - Brittney has a good excuse. She needs to prepare for 2019 Nationals.
Does USATF give the hosts refunds as big names drop?
If contracts had statements requiring participation, lame excuses would just be gjven, save us the bs at least.
It's such an off year the Haywood field even threw in the towel.

So true. Dalilah Muhammad is probably making a lot more in the diamond league than showing up for some poorly attended meet in the middle of nowhere. If the USATF wants to be taken seriously, pay a competitive purse. Plus, for elite track athletes, worlds and Olympics carry prestige - not nationals.
