The Purdue girl who “choked” ran a faster leg than every anchor except Ellis and every 3rd leg except Sydney McLaughlin. She performed at or above expectations-not a choke. Ellis was just too good. A choke is what the BYU guys did in the 10k.
Getting beaten by a better athlete isn't a choke job.
Giving up a 30 meter lead in the last 100 meters is a choke, end of story. Running the second fastest anchor leg doesn't make it not a choke, she went out too hard and had nothing left at the end, for a running forum I figured you all would understand the basics of racing strategy.

So when the Falcons blew a 28-3 lead it wasn't a choke job because Brady is a better QB? LOL okay.
1972 when Pre kicked too early.
Choking is when you do not perform your best because of the stress of the game or the pressure of having a lead/being favorited. This isn't a choke job because the Purdue anchor ran a fast leg as expected. They just got beat. It happens.

Exactly, you’ve proven it was a choke. She had an insurmountable lead and ran a very poor race strategically allowing USC to win. That’s a choke.

You're a boob. If anything blame the coach for running Purdue's fastest two legs on the first two legs.
You don't seem to understand anything however this doesn't set you apart from most on this board.
I always thought a choke was when the pressure got to a team or athlete. I just think she looked at the monitor and thought the race was over with 50 to go. She was actually overconfident which is kind of the opposite of a choke. Stupid though.

She was looking at the monitor because she was dead and knew Ellis was closing. For the hundredth time, she ran a good split. She didn’t make a “strategic mistake”, and OP and others saying that are morons who have zero familiarity with 400m running.
Purdue - 52.08/52.37
SC - 50.05/49.99
So the Purdue runner actually split a little in this race compared to her all-time PR.

The Purdue runner ran superbly the first 300m--much faster than she has ever run before. The last 100m was slower. The overall 400m was outstanding. ... My takeaway is that she is capable of a low 50/sub 50. She needs to work on last 100m strength.
Exactly @ Notso. Well said.

She ran slower than she usually does? That would be the only way her performance could be viewed as a choke.
Piss on Purdue Party officially over, no choke job, move along, nothing more to see here.
Walmsley at road 100K World Champs, Western States twice, UTMB, and Grand Raid. Ready to watch another implosion.
I feel like I’m taking crazy pills here. That was the choke job of the century. Terrible running by Purdue and just lack of heart. It’s inexcusible to blow that lead in a 5k let alone a fucking sprint. Absolute masterclass of a choke. Reggie would be proud.

You might be crazy, or you might just have an extremely misinformed understanding of how track and field works.

Please inform me then how giving up a what 25-30 meter lead in the last 100 of a sprint isn’t a choke? If that happened in the 5k to Rupp you’d never be able to quit the posts here about how massive a choke it was. So in a sprint it’s downright inexcusable.
That was a choke for sure. Has anyone here ever actually run a 400? Because she ran it like an excited middle schooler, choke all day.
