I don't know what I think about the new air of hipsterism in the hallowed pages of RW.
It's like this article was pitched for Vice, got rejected, then made it into RW:

yea its not really that inspiring of a story. good for him for discovering running and enjoying it but "Dear diary.." lol
They've been doing this for the past year or more. They already deleted their website forum and shifted it over to Facebook as well as their blog platform. They're struggling and it's showing, as much of the other paper magazines are. Slowly downsizing and shifting it's readership tactics.

Old joke, apropos to RW:
[First Hunter shoots three times at duck passing just overhead.]
Bam! Bam! Bam!
Second hunter: How the hell did you miss that shot?
First Hunter: I didn't.
Second Hunter: WTF?
First Hunter: Yonder flies a dead duck.
I, sadly, lost RW issues from 1969 to the late 90's.
I used to dig out the early-mid 70's issues and just read through them.
The article were short but excellent- coverage of the annual World Cross and articles on top road races- like some old Canadian race that kind of went "around the block" once and then twice for the longer race.
Profiles on regionally good runners and meet results from meets all over the country.
There were indoor races in small, packed arenas, 10/11 laps per mile wooden tracks, no one cared about times just the race.

You do realize it's a completely different company, including new editor, as of a few months ago, right?

I posted this on another thread yesterday:
"I think that after Hearst bought it from Rodale they got rid of David Willey's replacement who was trying to turn it into a women's fitness magazine. For the last four months or so, it has been a pretty good general interest running magazine. Although not elite coverage, the articles are at least articles That I would read in Outdoor Magazine ."
In other words, call it "edgy" if you want to, but definitely a vast improvement over the the brief period when the editor put Wilhemina Models on the cover and the content was unreadable to a 49 year old guy that has been running since junior high.
This is the other thread:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?board=1&id=8860331&thread=8860288#8860331I missed the "Ask Miles" segment in the last issue.
Seriously though, did anyone else notice how anorexic that last issue is?
If they would just turn RW into what was RT... I'd keep receiving a paper copy.
The focus of the magazine for years has been shift to a women's fitness magazine "Hey Kale!!" "Quina! It's what's for... EVERTHING!" The only reason I receive it is because I had a 3 yr subscription to RT and it converted to RW.
I hope they do try to re-engage the more competitive performance focused runners, but I think it may be far too late.
Runner's World is still in print? I had no idea. Hadn't thought of it in years.
In the day of instant on line everything, I'm surprised any print magazines are still hanging on.
Time magazine these days is about as thick as the New Republic magazine was in the 1990s.
I hate Runners World because it is Normie scum crap.
How soon until they do a profile of AOC?
My guess is that AOC will do the Capital Challenge, that 3-miler in Washington for senators, congressmen, federal officials and their staffs, so that'll give them an excuse to write about her.
They'd bounced almost everyone from Rodale who'd been on the staff, but they seem to have brought a couple back.

They started to go down when they took the behind the scenes shekels and shifted their focus to telling people that no one could compete with E. Africans (before EPO launched E. African dominance), be content with being a slug slow schlub, etc.. That rag deserves death.
Kind of sad to see Runner's World continue to decline. It used to be a great magazine back in the 70's and 80's. Then it started to go more towards the masses and hobby joggers. Now the articles over the past 20 years are just regurgitated every couple of years and brought out as something new.
Loved the old shoe rankings back in the day with a #1 through #5 I think it was. Then they had to get all PC and just say editor's choice and other things for each category they could think of.
I don't think any of you guys/girls are picking it up. A lot of good product reviews and articles since Rodale sold it.
"Now the articles over the past 20 years are just regurgitated every couple of years and brought out as something new."
Much like LRC posts....
Sad to see hardly any posts from top notch athletes and coaches, just young wannabe critics who have to cut down everything anyone has to say. Slowly LRC, too, is dying.
I used to like Running Times, I could blow through it quickly but there was usually something that would peak my interest. RW, it was like a women's fitness magazine. I had no interest.
I do appreciate the fact they are TRYING to shed that bad image but I think it might be too little too late. They are shying away from results and training and trying more to focus on individual runners. Not sure if there's a market for it, or any magazine to be honest.
RW does seem to have gotten a bit better in print... but the website has really seemed to turn into an amazon affiliate marketing page.
In other media news, Competitor has rebranded themselves to Podium Runner, we will see how that goes
