Sydney McLaughlin would have won that NCAA 800

She has ran 800's before on relays at NB nationals back in high school. I recall her time being quite impressive - don't remember exactly, but I believe somewhere in the 2:02-2:04 range

Tim Duckworth is one of the top athletes in the world. His PRs are all faster the McLaughlin. He trains for all events and yet can only run 2:20 in the 800.

Her best mark of the year so far, is her 52.75 400H. Arguably that makes her a 49 low 400 runner. She can certainly run sub 90 sec 600m. the issue is what happens over the last 200m. She might still be a bit short on endurance / cumulative training volume to pull off a sub 2 min 800m, but nest yr or the tr after it should be possible. do you remember Edwin Moses or Harold Schmidt? Both were sub 400mH guys (Moses 47.02) and both ran 1:47-48 sec 800m, in fact, I think that Schmidt actually ran 1:44.xx, and one year either ranked or made the yearly lists in the 400mH, 110mHH, and the 800, and may well have run sub 45 in 400m as well. Maybe it was that and not the 110mHH. Point being that there is correlation btwn 400mH and 800m.

That's awesome but doesn't really mean anything, and has no influence on what Sydney has already run

It indicates that you can't just extrapolate to get an 800 time for a good runner. He is faster than her and can only run 2:20. She may only be able to do the same. There is no evidence that she can run a fast 800 even if she can run 49 in the 400 or 52 in the 400 hurdles.

There is a reason people are sprinters and others a middle distance runners.

There is a reason she's not racing over 400 m. Its because its her sweet spot. She is a wonderful athlete. She's fast at 100, 200, and 400. She's also strong. She might even run 2:00 at some stage of her life. But she's not a middle distance runner. If she ever ran a hard fast 800 in that time range, she'd still be 7 seconds of the WR, 5 seconds behind the best wo-men. And if she it one time a month she'd be excelling. She'd never do it 2 times in a day. Or 3 times in a weekend at a championships.

Just let her enjoy her sport. We had the same rubbish about Bolt moving up to 400. Yes he could do it, but his heart would never be in it, therefore nor would his legs.

You have no clue what you are talking about. First off a 1:32.5 is equal to a 2:09.5 800M using a 1.40 scale. If you gave her a couple shots, she'd run around 1:25.

"Would of" is the correct grammar in this situation. "Would have" could of worked in this situation to, but the later is used less then the former these days

I'm still bitter about when I was beaten by a 400m hurdler on my team who decided to run an 800 indoors.

Why would they have run her in a 600m indoor...for any reason?

2min for 800m? Is that all? Look, Sydney could run a mile in less than 4 minutes with a bit of endurance work. She has super powers that ordinary women just don't possess.

That's great but that's not at all what I'm saying. I'm saying that she literally already ran faster than that as a high schooler at NB nationals. Nice work smart guy

She's signed on to pace in Berlin, supposedly they want her to get through at least 30km at 2:02 pace
