Rai Benjamin 47.02 in pouring rain. WTF is in the air today?

He’d destroy Samba from Qatar. GOAT in the making.
-
If you understood the context of his season it falls less surprisingly into place. Given he trains with Michael Norman it is not that surprising. Remarkable though? Most definitely.
-
He lost recently to both Samba and Warholm, so no he wouldnt destroy either.

If they were in this race he would have. No way Warholm could ever run anywhere near 47.02. Samba could get close but 47.0 is really special. A #2 all-time mark is never "expected", especially today -
A lesson is needed in what the best atmospheric conditions are to run sprints in. These conditions aren't far from being perfect.

Please educate us all in the amateur scientist thread then instead of being short here. Recent evidence seems to show the opposite, especially because this doesn't seem to be a "hot" rain -

Meant to say he lost his world lead to them over and over. If Samba and Warholm were in this it would have been a 46 second race. -
Far from a pouring rain. Barely a drizzle with no wind.
-
47.02 is probably one of the best performances since Rudisha ran the WR in London. Period. WVN's WR is up there too of course.
That. Is. Amazing. -
The guy reminds me of Kevin Young. He just steps over the hurdles effortlessly while the others look like they are putting more effort into it and occasionally 12 steps between the hurdles. His height has to help him in this event. Generational talent.
-
I thought it would take Holloway moving to the hurdles to break Young’s record but it looks like Benjamin might get there first
I didn’t think he could be THIS good
That 4x400 split! -
The op has never experienced rain... or seen it in real life. Conditions were perfect today BECAUSE the ground was wet and there was literally no rain during the race..

There is always one of these "geniuses" -
Not sure if you're harping on my analysis or the OP's question.
Good night. -

OK, you caught me. I live in the Gobi Desert, and now I understand in fact it's better for running to have literal puddles on the track. They should have the Hayward grounds crew hose down the track before the races every year so we'll be assured fast times. -

I always enjoyed running at Hayward. The air was so much cleaner than where I was from. I also liked the smell of pollen that was everywhere. Haven't been there in quite some time so not sure how it is now. I always felt healthy and relaxed in Eugene. -

Ah, the good ol days. Just smells like meth and BO these days. -
Holy shit!!! And Abderrahmane Samba was the next big thing.

Benjamin is the most athletic 400 meter hurdler I've ever seen. It really looks unfair out there. The other guys may have great stretches of peak performances but Rai Benjamin is like a Barry Sanders talent out there. He can glide and high step and vary his footwork wonderfully approaching a hurdle, then seemingly defy gravity and plant both feet quickly leaving a hurdle for maximum velocity toward the next barrier. Simply breathtaking.
Edwin Moses was a remarkably consistent and dedicated metronome. Kevin Young had similar frame to Benjamin and had a couple of dominant seasons. But neither of them owned the high stepping freakish loose legged gifts of Rai Benjamin.
