Kentucky athletics' press release for NCAAs is suggesting this is her final meet as a collegian:
"This weekend, in all likelihood, will be McLaughlin's last as a collegian. She wants to make it count.
"Being able to have a track team that has the potential to win a national title, it's really exciting for us, especially knowing our girls have worked so hard," McLaughlin said. "Not everyone we needed to make it made it, but just knowing that we're going to do our best to represent our school. We have each other's backs regardless what happens.""

I thought it was silly she didn't go pro out of high school.
Before college she was already world class in a way high school phenoms like Mary Cain never were. The window of opportunity for an athlete is brief and even a successful one or two year stint as a high level professional in track does not set you up for life. You have to take the opportunity while you can.
With that said her year at Kentucky only increased her already high earning potential; but she would be crazy to stay past NCAAs. -
She will be wearing a swoosh or three stripes by USAs. Anticipating a legendarily large contact. Something that will make Centro’s seem modest.
-
It would be cool to see her demolish a slew of NCAA records, but a fat contract is worth more than that.
-
She has no competition in the NCAA, She May not have competition in the Pro's either, her talent is off the charts, sub 52 is possible as early as Saturday, I have a feeling when the 2020 Olympics come around the main question will be who gets 2nd behind her.
-
Could this also be a clue as to who the next Texas coach is too?
-
The one misgiving I have about this is that she actually has greater dept of competition in the 400 in the NCAA. Miller-Uebo is the only pro that can take her on there I think.
We'll miss seeing some epic 4x4's, at least until Worlds 2019. -
It was smart of her to experience college track & field prior to turning pro. One season of college t&f should suffice for this amazing athlete.
-
I hope she stays with the Kentucky coach.

Given how the Kentucky coach has had a slew of success with both 100H and 400H on both the NCAA and international scene, I think the odds are high that she'll stick with him UNLESS they have a poor coach-athlete relationship for whatever reason. -

That is a certainty. He already coaches several pros, including Kori Carter. -
I think she will stay with Kentucky. Maybe that is one of the reasons out of many why she chose Kentucky over other schools.
-
Thanks for the update. She is a talent and seems really happy at Kentucky. Maybe she will stay and continue taking classes/training. His long term approach with the athletes I have watched seems right on.

Update? -
Webb made the miatake of not going pro and weakened his position and Syndey definitely risked that. An injury or anythjng less than a stellar year could have costed her a million bucks over the course of her career.
Instead she went to college and had a meteoric rise (which is saying a lot considering she was an Olympian who looks like a model while a junior in HS....) and now she’ll probably make a mil a year.
What a story. -

You meant to state, I believe, Sydney McLaughlin has no competition in 400mH. 400mH in T&F is like breast stroke in S&D. McLaughlin has 400m, spring 2019, an event she is not racing this spring as motivation to stay in school and compete next year. -

Dude, since you're one of the only nonracist LR readers who knows that black sprintergirls are HoTT, then we should celebrate doubly. Sydney is the acme of the HoTT, FaSSt black sprintergirl an she's much smarter than the male LR readers. No surprise. Anyway, it would be even smarter for her to turn pro right now; there is nothing to be gained for her by NOT turning pro. No way to increase her market value beyond what it already is, and plenty of chances to decrease it (injury; even one or two poor performances); plus simple loss of time at the top of the pro ranks which is basically where she already is, performance-wise. She is also very, very FaSSt. And HoTT. And did you know, incredibly FaSSSSt??! -
She is brown as hale, hott as hale, will break the 400 hurdles WR, will run 48.xx in the open 400... Superstar!
-
And we know that the University of Kentucky is the master of the one and done athletes!

Smart move on her part going to UK for a year. This is the coach she thinks she wants to work with. Go spend a year at UK, do you like the area, do you like the coach, do you like the people you will be training with, do you like giving away from home. She has answered all those questions and now can make an informed decision on what she wants to do with her life/career.
