Competed in a race yesterday for the first time in a while, so I haven't been on the race scene lately, so not sure if this guy is a fixture. There was a guy running in a long Native American headdress. That was odd, whatever, but he was taking selfies like they were going out of style. And this wasn't a kid, he had to be in his 40s. And I didn't see him with anyone else, looked to be there alone.
Got any stories of crazy self-love at the races.
Vainest thing I've seen at a road race

That is pretty much standard anywhere in America now. Shameful $hit to say the least. I weep for the future of my own generation, morans are more into taking selfies and pretending to be engaged in politics and current events. It's all a show for social media likes and shares.

A couple years ago I won a 50 and over (seniors) 5K. The guy who came in 2nd got his trophy at the awards ceremony.
He held it up- like it was the Wimbledon trophy- and kept saying "thank you, thank you".
Then he went to little kids and asked them if they wanted to touch it (which I thought was creepy).
Then on Facebook he posted that he let me win!
People who knew him started calling him out.
I found out that he has been banned by some races because of his behavior. -
Is there a record for a marathon run while going into a mirror? Or with a selfie taken and posted on IG at every mile checkpoint? New challenges for a New Era.

I find this funny and witty.

Ten, twelve years back I ran a 5K with the kid. Walked some of it, jogged backwards a lot, that sort of thing. Encouraging. Got the kid to the finish.
Hung around a while because the finishing area had some neat stuff going on. Awards. Heard I won my 10K div in a 33 low. Not bad at my age. Weird. My kid was signed up for the 5K, and I signed the kid up. Signed myself up, too. -
Sometimes I come to the track for training, and a guy (different guys, but always a man!) is in full uniform with fancy appearance, but he can clearly not run half a mile. But he is able to take selfies. Yes he is.

Not a "race" per se...but the whole concept of the whole "Color Me Rad" thing is pretty vain...Color Me Rad, the Foam Run, the Nations Night Run, etc..

I'll tell you.... wrote:

And that's why I'll never run one of those $hit "races." -
Those toe-shoe things are pretty vain.

I'm just really thankful that i read through this entire thread and don't recognize any one of those things as something i've done. Yet.

The 50-something wrinkled dude in a tiny red Speedo, and no shirt. -
The one who runs backwards while pacing his slower friend.
Vain and moranic. -
Are you in NYC and was the guy shirtless? If so, yes, he's a fixture. I don't care about the native pride, selfie thing but if we're talking about the same guy he gets into the front corral at most NYRR races (I'm guessing by the skin of his teeth) and then insists on getting to the very front so he can get some race "leading" photos before getting trampled. It's irritating.

I watched a friend of mine show up to a local road race all decked out in the latest Nike kit. Flats, singlet, etc.. he looked like he should be toeing the line at the Trials, instead it was some road race in BF nowhere. THEN... he got totally school by two HS kids... it was hard to watch but I'm pretty sure a lesson was learned that day

Couple years back i was on the track doing my warm ups and i see this guy in these unbelievable short shorts walk up and start stretching...
-
A few weeks back i see this guy on the track taking selfies and the next thing i know he opens up his shorts to get in a few good shots of his johnson, he does this for a good 5-10 minutes before he runs off

This was more DC, but shirtless was another factor in the "I'm in Love with My Carcass" theme. -

That sentence by itself is creepy. -
Why is this even a topic! There is no such thing as being Vain anymore! Just look at Facebook and Instagram! Today's generation is all about taking 30 pics of yourself everyday and posting them on social media sites. Instagram is like soft porn! Girls post pics all day and just wait to see how many likes they get and comments they can read through!
"You look amazing girl"
Oh thanks!
"OMG I want your body!"
Haha thanks. You look better than me.
"Girl you are gorgeous!"
Thank you!
"Will you marry me?"
Haha no I have a bf
and then there's the creeper who can not spell or write.
"You are beautifull person and like a princess. I like you will you message me please."
The psychology of the selfie would be a great research paper!
