A week ago he was racing at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Tampa. Very sad news.
Story:
Here's a copy and paste from the article quoted above in the Citizen Tribune:
Additional information has been released in connection with a Thursday morning fatal incident on Interstate 40 in Cocke County.
The victim in the incident has been identified as Geoffrey Cheruiyot, a 23-year-old native of Kenya. He had reportedly graduated on Wednesday from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.
Authorities said Cheruiyot was eastbound at about 12:30 a.m. when his Chevrolet Impala struck the concrete median in a construction zone and then went into the median where it rolled near the 434-mile marker.
The driver reportedly exited his car and ran along the westbound side of the interstate to near the 433-mile marker. He then ran onto the westbound lanes and laid down on the roadway, where he was struck by a westbound church bus.
Authorities say the incident was captured on the dashboard camera of the bus.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has not released additional information regarding the crash.
Cocke County Deputy Lt. Bob Schaff said when Cheruiyot struck the concrete barrier, it was moved into the roadway where it was struck by an eastbound 18-wheeler a short time later. No injuries resulted from that incident.
Oh my god
Wow, he ran a full mile before his perhaps life-threatening injuries probably caught up with him when he laid down to rest.
My God, those details are horrific. Can't imagine how hard it will hit his family. RIP.
Or suicide?
How did he do at the prelim meet?
Man this is awful. I loved following that guy
"The driver reportedly exited his car and ran along the westbound side of the interstate to near the 433-mile marker. He then ran onto the westbound lanes and laid down on the roadway, where he was struck by a westbound church bus."
Sounds like he was seeking help when he got struck. He went to the middle of the road to try and get attention for cars to stop and someone to help him. Unfortunately this was a dangerous thing to do and ended up getting struck to death. RIP Geoff.

I think you missed a detail.
Wow that's crazy. Appears to be a suicide based on the article. A few days after he graduated. Such a sad story for a promising young man. You never know what people are going through.
I'm not sure about suicide, guys.
Alcohol-related? Was at 12:35am.
I know suicidal thinking isn’t rational- but after “failing” when crashing his vehicle, why run a whole mile before going into traffic?
I think based on the hour, and the fact that the concrete barrier was in the road already,as police said, he was perhaps in shock/severely injured. Perhaps “laid down” was an inaccurate term and collapsed or fainted is more accurate.
Regardless, tragic, especially so far away from home and having just earned a college degree.
Really sad news. Rest in Peace.
This really is an unusual story, but no matter the cause, this is tragic. A young man's life is gone way too early. Thoughts to everyone who knew him.
Can't believe this. What a horrible way to go.....REST IN PEACE GEOFFREY. MUCH LOVE FROM AN MTSU FAN.

Agreed. If he crashed into a concrete barrier then ran a mile, collapsing is a very probable result. Especially if he was drinking or something also.
RIP
