This thread is old, but I agree 100% with this.
A sub 60 400 is easy as f***, I've run that in trainers way too many times to count. A 19:59 5K is slower than my tempo run.
But a sub 5 mile? That's in a whole different league. I've never even come close despite multiple attempts at it.
BTW, a 59" 400 wouldn't even get you on the frosh-soph 4x4 "B" team at my former HS. A 19:5x 5K would barely make the top 7 XC varsity squad...for the girls, that is.
We didn't have a single guy who could run a sub 4:58 1600 / sub 5 mile.
