I wish people posting on these forums would distinguish between the runner and the person. When someone seems to be running well, they are the greatest person ever and perfect in every way (even if they are a jerk in real life). Conversely, if they aren't running well or scratch from a race, things get very personal and often inappropriate.
I do not know Erin Finn, but I coached at a nearby high school when she was in high school and know many people who know her personally. I have never heard of her being rude or disrespectful to anyone in any way. Everything I have heard about her is that she is a good person who is very kind and giving. Whether she is Olympic Champ or a 30 minute 5k runner, Erin the person should be treated with the same respect she shows toward other people.
This should be the same for any athlete on any kind of stage, from a high school kid to a 30-something veteran with a couple of Olympic appearances. Don't knock a person's character because you don't agree with how they train or race. Especially when the athlete in question conducts themselves with dignity and respect.
If anyone wants to question or critique Erin Finn the runner, go right ahead. If you disagree with how she trains or the racing schedule she follows or the racing strategy she uses, It is your prerogative. It is sports and the same as questioning why your favorite football team went for it on fourth down instead of punting or why a baseball manager put in a reliever in the ninth inning instead bringing back the starting per who is pitching lights out.
Ultimately, please don't get personal when critiquing these athletes. You don't know them and don't have the right to be disrespectful in any circumstance.
