Maybe he is 18, maybe not. I wouldn't blame him anyways. Iaaf should enforce more solid proof of age for young Diamond league participants. It is of the interest of all except age cheaters.

My husband's favorite Silas Kiplagat memory at Pre is seeing him in the bathrooms trying to teach the other Kenyan runners how to use the air dryers.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
When you use a term like "podunk" I can only guess you want some kind of reaction. Silly you.
Hayward Field is sacred ground for Track and Field. I'd never been there before this year, but have always watched Pre via media. It was a treat to go there this year - especially since it's the last Pre at historic Hayward Field. Went to see Pre's Rock, too, where there was a crowd of track fans at 9:00 in the morning.
And, yes, Hayward Field was sold out. I had a wonderful experience being around a stadium full of track fans and world class athletes.
Too bad you missed it. I live in Portland and did the 2 hour drive. On the bright side, it's much cheaper to get a room there than in a major city like San Fran or Boston. And it's a cool town, too, hardly "podunk", which is a weird term to use, since, it seems, you haven't been there. Saturday morning the running trails were super-crowded with groups of runners.
I suggest a change in attitude and give it a try. Too bad if you've never been to Hayward for Pre. You missed your chance for a wonderful experience. If you live with a negative mindset, you miss opportunities.

some podunk town in Oregon.
Deer Mr. Big City Track Guy,
You really seem to have grabbed the wrong end of the stick here.
First, Podunk is technically a hamlet, not a town. It's in the town of Ulysses, NY, about halfway between Ithaca and Covert on Route 96.
Second, as someone who's been to Podunk, I can assure you Eugene is nothing like Podunk. Eugene makes Podunk look like Bagdad-by-the-Bay. Podunk is closer to Pescadero or Davenport but less urban feeling (plus it doesn't have Duarte's).
Third, have you been to Payton Jordan? Pre is just like that, only better.
