About to ditch Strava wrote:
Why do cyclists and 8min pace hobbyjoggers try to race my segments on a strava all the time? I come to a random city in the USA and Europe once a year and go for easy training run at 7min pace and find I went over some segments where segment time puts me in like 10th place out of hundreds behind some cyclists and a few runners (those cyclists with flashy Strava profile pic showing off costume and bike) Suddenly I look at the person in 8th or 9th place ahead of me and it seems like they live locally, they run 20mpw at 8min pace in the area but they race the Strava segments to get in the top10. So dumb it’s sad!
Ik this post is two years old but dang is it pathetically sad. Imagine gatekeeping Strava segments lmfao.
I think it’s fun to go and try to run sub 4 pace (or GAP) on segments of up to half a mile. It’s such a fun way to inject speed during base, and telling less skilled/talented people that they shouldn’t be allowed to do the same is honestly so cringey and points to a weak ego.
