So, after doing some further research it seems that acid reflux is caused by a lack of stomach acid and not too much stomach acid. Therefore I've stopped taking Omezaprole and have started taking apple cider vinegar and Betaine HCL with pepsin which seems to alleviate my symptons.
I still get occasional heartburn and some restricted breathing when running, but I think this could be fixed by making some further dietry changes - e.g. no black tea before running.
I'm furious that GPs are handing out prescriptions for PPIs when these do nothing to fix the cause of the problem and in fact make it much worse.
i have gerd and take ppi, which works very well, so i would be interested to see your research
I'd like to update mine since this thread is bumped. I haven't had any issues in roughly a year. I still don't drink too much coffee/caffeine. I still avoid having too much acidic food or fatty/oily/greasy (FOG) food. But the game changer was mostly cutting out dairy, I learned that I don't digest it well. I still purposely have some because I do not want to be more sensitive to it, but I mostly avoid it and have been great for awhile.

I had gerds as well and had to change my diet. I noticed if I eat red pasta and go to bed within 3 hours I would wake up at night with bad heartburn. Tums helped me out a lot as well as eating grapes.
All the best to you!!
Here is what proved helpful for me:
1) Avoid ice cold beverages, including ice cold water. Try to consume at room temperature instead, warm is ok. Ice cold beverages/foods proved to be very aggravating to my stomach and there is literature out there on how cold beverages can contribute to reflux issues.
2) Avoid/reduce consumption of nuts including peanuts, walnuts and almonds. I'm trying to figure out if I can do some nuts but not others and if so in what quantities but for now I'm just limiting my consumption.
3) Apple/cider vinegar appears to be helpful. I've been using this product called Manuka Honey which is basically apple cider vinegar with honey, but I think regular Apple Cider Vinegar(Braggs Organic) is also helpful.
4) Stress/anxiety are contributing factors. I went on vacation for 2 weeks to the islands and had very little issues but as soon as I returned it cropped up again. I do body scan exercises to identify tension areas and breathing exercises regularly which are helpful.
5) Forgot to add. Include core/abs excercises in your fitness program. Losing belly fat, toning abs was helpfulfor me.

I began eating more red meat and it doesn't bother me. I avoid tomatoes/ sauce. Also cold coffee instead of hot. Not eating late in the day too.
It’s been a little over a month since my last endoscopy and no severe episodes
I know this sounds like a joke but I was referred to a nutritionist who has also helped me.
She put me on this nutrinix app, keeping me at or around 1800 calories
She knows I’m an impossible patient so she stresses portions and when to eat what and has only so far taken me off Pepsi’s and OJ
The pentoprozal also helps but she wants me off that.
Improvement so far!
Please continue… they say mint relaxes the pyloric sphincters, so how does this work?
