THIS. I always hear snarky stuff and implied this and implied that.
But it’s pretty amazing on an anonymous message board full of Metcalf haters, no one has ever managed to give credible specfics as to his supposed sins.

Can someone say why he's so hated on here? Sounds like it goes beyond a few athletes underperforming
Just a dirty guy. Filthy mouth. "F" word every other sentence. Culture problems.
When a team is successful this board thinks that it is because of the athlete. When a team fails it is the coaches fault. Neither is 100% true.

Hopefully Washington can finally become the distance powerhouse that it should be. Fingers crossed for a good hire here.
Noooo! That's why they suck now. Get a sprinter focused coach and recruit kids that can actually do more than run slow in a circle.
This is an awesome job. Pays well. Great conference. Awesome facilities. Have to assume Greg messed up to be let go before season ends so current staff (at least distance) will be gone too.
Hire both a sprint coach to be head track and a male and female to coach the distance as head coaches each.
Who would take position and flourish?
What happens to the current assistant coaches? Are their jobs on the line too?
Depends who they bring in as the replacement. If Jason Drake becomes the new HC then everyone would probably be retained. But my guess is the AD will want to bring in fresh blood and then the new HC can decide if he or she wants to keep members of the existing staff. I would think any new head coach would love to keep Pat Licari (jumps) on board but I would expect the rest to be looking elsewhere for new opportunities.
If he was stepping away because of his coaching then he would be leaving at the end of the season. If he is leaving with 3 weeks remaining the he has been fired.
Coach JD should be head coach. He is an amazing coach, knows the athletes, and has had many successes in the past. I vote for JD!!
Greg Metcalf is a sleezy person and UW deserves better. Everyone is better off with him leaving, but undortunately another school may take him on. Good luck with that, I recommend asking the old athletes before you hire this man
I like the Danny Mackey idea.
My vote as well!

He is a salesman. PERIOD. The man couldn't coach for the life of him
It's been said for years that UW is where good runners go to die. Metcalf seems like a nice guy from the few interactions I've had with him, but I'm happy to see a change. Seattle is a great place to train, and with the UW facilities a good coach should be able to develop some great runners.
In steps Dave Smith

What is Danny’s college coaching experience? I am not familiar with him as a college coach only coaching post collegiates.
This is a power5 school and it deserves someone with at least 3-5 years of college coaching experience I think that’s fair to the university and the other applicants
Danny is stressed by the drama of Brooks Beasts. He would melt from all the happening of a college track program. Especially with zero experience.
Another meat-grinder training philosophy with a used-car-salesman facade. The guy has a superficial understanding and heart for the sport. Just collecting an easy paycheck for almost 20 years. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Now, how about Tony Sandoval....
