This is the race of the meet to me. We have Mac Fleet vs Leo Manzano vs Chad Noelle. I really cant decide who I think will place better, in my mind they're all equal to about a top tier high schooler. Two washed up NCAA champs vs the aging 2012 silver medalist, who you got?

Leo ran [2] 4:00:nn miles in april of this year, I think thats a little better than a top tier HS'er
-
false sir, Brody hasty ran 4:00 in the mile in indoors. Highschoolers have ran 4:00 or faster for the past 4 years. Leo is done
-
I'm not sure "top tier" is equivalent to "4 individuals in the last 5 years, and most of those 1-offs"
unless the "top tier" of HS milers consists of the set of 0-1 individuals per year. There is a better word for that -
If he can run sub-3:57, then he is faster than top tier HS. Until then, equal to.
-
Matthew Maton, grant Fisher, drew hunter, reed brown, Sam Worley, cooper teare, dj Principe, Brody hasty, Michael slagowski. that's more than 4 in the last 5 years. Leo is no better than top tier (teare) highschool runners
-
So your definition of 'top tier HSers' needs to be corrected from the set of 0-1 individuals per year to the newly corrected set of 0-2
Thanks for that. There is still a better word for this than 'top tier' -
leo opened his 2018 season with a 1:52 800 and he ran 4:12 during the indoor season, if that doesn't fit the definition of top tier high schooler then i don't know what does

99% of competitive runners would absolutely love to have an NCAA title (or two) and/or an Olympic silver medal on their resume's.
If you were to be guaranteed those accomplishments with the additional guarantee that your careers would then parallel those of Mac, Chad, and Leo, 99% of competitive runners would take it every
These guys are accomplished elite athletes. -

Which HS athletes ran a pair of 4 minute flat [4:00:nn] miles in April of this year? Or two similar performances in any year?
I think the disagreement has to do with the word "Tier", it is inappropriate for the set of individuals that are in the range [0-2] from a participant size of over a million. That is not a 'tier' -
okay, forget the word tier. Leo is currently in no better shape than the very best highschoolers have been the past 4 years.
Also his showing at oxy was rough, he's an amazing athlete but he needs to hang em' up. -

Why would he hang them up? He's getting paid to do what he loves.
