Mr Walmsley ran 44 miles today with over 10,000 feet. The heat was 90 degrees. Is he ready?

I really don't see anybody winning WS other than Walmsley. He'll run the first 50k more conservative but still pushing it though. It's his year.
My money is on Jim King with the big comeback attempt...

Jim will never probably never win WS. He'll slip into the past and be forgotten. that doesn't mean he's not a great runner, but he's not a great 100 mile racer. Yet. He needs to find the line and stay on the right side of it. needs to be smarter, less emotional as a ultra runner and remember 100 miles is an incredibly long distance
he can easily win it if he sets off on a more reasonable pace. his eyes are bigger than his stomach though, so far

This was said by many for the past two years. Here's the thing: Walmsley is cocky and does stupid things and gives up when the going gets tough. I wouldn't bet on him.
Walms put 1hr in 44 miles on a guy that placed 30 min behind him in 50 miles at Lake Sonoma and who many here feel might be a co-favorite. This is only a month later.. I'd say Walmsley's training is going much better than Jared's and/or anyone on the planet right now. Fitness headed in the right direction.

uh...no, they ran together. Jared just didn't pause his watch when Jim did. check the flybys. there were a couple times where Jim would get a couple minutes ahead and then wait, but at the end Jared gapped Jim actually, by 4 minutes.
I don't care if he wins a minor race like Lake Sonoma against his training buddies he knows he's better than, or whatever monster training run or FKT he does against himself. His nerves get to him at every single major competition. He can't mentally work and push through the common things (getting lost, puking, fatigue). Francois gets my vote for consistently keeping his cool in major competition at 100 miles.

He's a young runner (27-28), if he was 36 and this was his MO for over a decade but remained competitive, well then you can't argue that. He's not even in his prime yet. I got turned off last year too leading into Western, but he's rebounded strong. As a competitor, you know he had to look deep within after that blow up.. he ran very well at UTMB too. The podium wasn't out of reach until the final push.
I don’t care to hear excuses like this. He’s been running competitively since making the Foot Locker finals in HS. You either have it or you don’t to bring it when it counts against major comoetition. Plenty of opportunities and he’s been mentally weak every time. All talk, no game.
Neuschwander with a nice win today:

He prolly won't win wser but I totally see him in the top10, even top5.
Watch out :)
I would think that D'Haene would have trouble with heat due to his size. On the other hand Jurek wasn't exactly tiny, and Francois doesn't race for second place.

I get that you’re just a troll, but why not explain in your view how his nerves got him and he wasn’t able to mentally push through at UTMB? He tried to stay with Francois, he cracked, dropped down to 8th, ran his way back to 5th. Which part of the “common things” did he not push through? Or is UTMB just a minor race? The way he ran UTMB made it pretty clear he did try to adjust from where he went wrong at WS, seems like he is learning and improving.
Do bad trolls like you always have to be an idiot?
Note: I want Francois to win WS this year.
You’re pointing out the one time out of five major competitions where he kind of rallied but still raced like an arrogant @ss and p****? Take off the rose colored glasses. The totality of his major performances and how he loses his fight when something common goes wrong speaks for itself. Not a gamer.
26 days until Western States. I much more interested in this than the NBA playoffs.
Used to be a b-ball fanatic, but I find the current style of play almost unwatchable along with players who have no class.
Shouldn't Steph Curry be fined for having his mouth guard hanging out of his mouth most of time?

They used to say that about Phil Mickelson and winning golf majors.
JIM WALMSLEY WHO? Dean Karnazes is just 5 spots down the waitlist and will likely be entered within a few days.
Dean is the greatest athlete in the world. Will run sub-14. You heard it here first.

Yeah, hello, we are talking about who will win if Dean is NOT in it. This is a very knowledgeable group here who know runners and running. We all know that Dean is the best, don't insult us.

Was talking to some ultra runners this past weekend and one guy in particular said he'd bet his next paycheck on Walmsley taking it..he heard from some sources in Walmsley's area that him and the Cowboys are preaching patience and have a plan super dialed in and last year was just an ignorant time trial..valid point and I agreed this is his 3rd go at the race..but is 3rd time a charm? I think it would be awesome to see that kind of redemption..any other takers? Cannot discredit Francois being paced by Sandes too..but who the hell knows honestly..who saw Andrew Miller taking the W in 2016..you just never know
How many posts are by Walmsley himself? Just shut up and run, dude.
