Is it too early to say that Jim Walmsley will finally set the CR?
Definitely.
If he ditch the CR idea and stick with the leaders for a while he can finally win though.

he won't do that. he'll go for the CR again, a little slower than last year though, and assuming conditions are better this year, he will get the CR. 14:33.
If its hot he will come in 8th.
I think its Jared Hazens year.

I see you know what you are talking about here....
To anyone else who doesn't know what they are talking about: Walmsley has won races and has set records already (both timed/official and FKT).
You can like him or not but he has the balls to try and go out fast from the beginning believing in himself and if you did follow his previous attempts you would know that in 2016, at his debut in WS100, he went off course at mile 96. He was merely 4 miles from the finish and running sub-record pace all along.
Thanks for not butchering me on that typo ***10k Olympic record pace***..you're an honest LRCer lol

except that's not what typo is.... (hint: it's a typo if you use a wrong *letter* or two and/or misplace it, not if you use a completely different word....).
And you keep not knowing what you are talking about re WS100 too
Low snow year...course will be snow free, and the river crossing will be lower.
Oh, dear, the Jim apologists are here. Abandon all hope. History is about to be rewritten.

I think his performance at UTMB really helped him mentally...like he needed to overcome what he did in that race (and finish..and finish really highly) to take him to the next level. From the interviews I've seen since that performance, he really seems in a good place mentally because of that day.
Love him or hate him, Jim is the major spectator draw for WS.
Like Tiger for Golf, a lot more people will pay attention with Jim running.
I'm hearing Nicole K's running great since moving to Cali...
I see Camille's running and a little like Jim; she tends to be all or nothing.

In what dimension does running actually work this way?

After he made a fool of himself in several interviews leading to UTMB, and even during the early miles of the race, at least he didn't give up once he faced issues, and got a good result. But then he went to Diagonale des Fous and cooked himself once more.
I think the changes in his interviews respond to the backlash from all the boasting and bragging. Even some elites had already started to call him out on his attitude. Jim makes a living from his sponsors. Image counts.
The women's race is gonna be nuts.
returning champ Cat Bradley
various women from top ten last year
Stephanie Violett
Camille Herron
and most importantly, Courtney Dauwalter.
Men's field has a lot of studs who are unproven over 100 miles
the coconino cowboys (but forget cody reed and eric senseman)
francois d'haene
mario mendoza
kris brown
then the more consistent but less interesting guys, ian sharman, karl meltzer, andrew miller, denucci, etc

Youre right. Slide him in at 2 or 3. I forget about him
Interesting that you put Coree in there at number 3. I met the guy at Silver Rush 50 a few years ago, super nice guy. Last I checked though he was still having some troubles at the 100 mile distance. Why do you think he'll finish that high? Good to see him on the start list!
