It is probably the most difficult.

We're talking about the 2 mi, not the 2 m. I don't believe that there is an official WR for the 2 meter.
There is no official world record for 2 miles either. Y'all are BURNED! Go metric and join the world.
To OP it is very stupid to stack a field for any distance shorter than 10,000, they will just get in each other's way and run 2 lanes wide, guaranteeing a slow pace. More stupid Nike contract-clause nonsense to force their athletes to compete in the US. Pay no attention to it, it will suck.
No Jamin?
I'm rooting for Cheptegei or Cheserek. Edris will probably get it though.

I was shocked at this post until I read the name. After how many years now, I still can’t believe BW’s maniacal dedication to making BS posts that appear earnest at first glance.
Anyway, we should have 4-5 races with fields like this every year rather than 1-2.

I agree - it's a solid and should be entertaining field. It clearly features some of the best American track runners of the past 2-6 years. If it's well paced, I absolutely agree that Teg's AR could be in danger, but I'll give it zero chance of threatening sub 8.
I'm rooting for Jenkins. I really hope he is in good form by Pre.
and the 2 mile world record isn't super duper strong. Bekele could have got it, geb too, and el g amongst others. It's not like its out of reach like bekele's 5000m and 10000m
AR going to be threatened for sure. Hassy, Chelimo, Jenkins, and Hill will all be there.
I would say cheserek will win this, but he hasn't spent enough time in Africa to hang with other Kenyans in this field.
It's great that running in America gave cheserek a lot of glory and success. But you have to understand, it also took away a lot of altitude and cultural training because he was racing and training against white Americans. It hurt him in the long run on the world seen.
Hath cheserek been raised KENYAN and competed and trained KENYAN, he may have become another kipchoge or komen. Now that's not a possibility.
Jenki! Jenki! Jenkins!
Wasn't he the great white hope a few years ago? He runs like one surprise good race a year, then the rest of the time sits in the pack and tries to kick and just misses making the podium.
Never beat against the NCAA G O A T King Ches.

Yeah that 3:49 indoor mile (all time #2) definitely proved that he'll never amount to anything.

It's not just the Americans. With the exception of Farah it has the top 6 from last years World Champ 5K, and top 3 from 10k, plus a handful of other good guys. It's pretty much the best field you could ask for right now.

The African Record?
AR=Area Record, aka continent, NR=National record

Yeah I'm sure.
7'20 3000m and 12'37 5000m are both > 7'58 2mi

You are crazy.
The only reason people thing the 2mi is anywhere near the 3k or 5k records is because of the allure of the sub 4 mile. The records are not comparable.
3000 WR = 58.6 or 3:56.0/mile
2m WR = 59.4s/400 or 3:59/mile
5000 WR = 60.5 or 4:03/mile
The 5000m is a mile longer than the 2mi, yet it has the same difference in pace that the 3000m and 2mi has with just over 200m difference in length.
It is a very strong record. Let's say a 7:58 2-mile equates to ~7:22 3k using the 1.08 conversion factor. That's still faster than anyone in the world ever ran besides Komen and the fastest anyone has run in recent years is 7:27. The American record is definitely in range, hopefully the fact that it's a non-DL scoring event means they will aim for a fast time.
