Its already been broken 2:00:25
great marketing from Nike... get two Kenyans to do Breaking 2 and leave Berlin and NYC open for Mo and Galen
I want him to break the official world record. Would be a shame if the greatest marathoner ends up never holding it.

He won't run another sub2. He's going for the WR in Dubai !! Simple as this. He wouldn't be able to run Dubai after Berlin and his chances of a WR are far bigger in Dubai.
I like the way you think. That course sure does seem perfect for such an attempt, and they clearly have money to throw around. Like others have said though, time's running out for Kipchoge. No one stays in WR shape for very long.

Agree about Dubai being the optimal course for a legit WR attempt, but the weather is always too hot there isn't it? I doubt it ever gets to 50 deg F there which is what would be needed.

If no-names run 2:04 there every year you would think Kipchoge can break the WR

Well stated. You beat me to the punch.
Not too hot. They start before dawn when temperatures at its lowest, and finish still in early morning.
At this point, why would be even bother running Berlin or another WMM event? Sure, he could win.. and win.. but to a certain extent, he has to be getting pretty bored. Money surely isn't a factor anymore. If this is true about not running again in 2018, pursuing a special project that is more fulfilling like the WR or sub2 would make a lot of sense. WR attempt in Dubai would be cool to see.
Reminds me of when Chrissie Wellington destroyed everyone in triathlon for several years. She randomly retired to move onto other things that were actually interesting.
Maybe he's been hit with a short duration PED ban?

A good point, the endless London-Berlin-London-Berlin would get monotonous. But he has also said that he wants to complete all the WMM events. To be fair though, that could just be a "world tour" in the twilight of his career.
One would think that since Dubai isn't a WMM event, there would also be the opportunity to have a little more flexibility to create ideal conditions for an attempt.
I hadn't considered Dubai before though, it's a cool idea. Just hope that he gets to set his goal time (whether that be sub2 in controlled conditions or the WR) whilst he's in such good shape and before his prep for the Olympics starts.

Exactly - Kipchoge has no competition in WMM events, he could just keep winning and winning for years to come. And he seems really focused on breaking 2 - the way he talks about "no human limitations" and proving a "human can go under 2 hours" you can tell this is what he wants to do.
As for a WR attempt, there are so many variables for something like this to go down - mainly weather and pacing both have to be perfect. Kipchoge could've broken the WR at London in 2016 when he was in crazy shape but just didn't realize at the time how close he was (missed by 8 seconds).
Oops ... a new article contradicting that one, from the same place no less. I tend to ignore articles that pop up on Xinhua; when they make sense at all they usually turn out to be at least partially untrue. Does anyone know anything about Xinhua? To me it from their history it seems like they might just purely make things up sometimes, including sources, quotes, etc
New York? No chance. He won't get a fast time there + he doesn't want a big big scare against Kamworor.
If they're going to set up phoney conditions like they did last time to try to break 2, they might as well run it on a downhill course and get it over with. I hate to see stunts like that detracting from someone's actual competitive running career.

How did it detract from Kipchoge's career? I'm honestly asking. Post sub2 Berlin win? Check. Post sub2 London win? Check. Generations of Kipchoge's immediate and extended family set for life? Check. What more do you want from him?

A WR on a ligit course, i.e. sub 2:02:57.
Also, does this mean Sept/Oct/Nov time?, if so I'm guessing it'll be Berlin:
" Jonathan Gault @jgault13 · May 4
FYI, I followed up about this with Kipchoge’s agent, Valentijn Trouw.
He told me “Eliud is focussing for a fall marathon.” "

How do you figure? The Breaking2 thing really put Kipchoge on the map for a lot of people. Most runners don't pay attention to the WMM events in Europe, as they're on at 2:30am in the US on odd TV stations that most people don't have. His face all over Nike.com and the constant articles on ESPN, Outside, Wired, Facebook and more really put him out there.
I'm not much a fan of the 'thon, but if Kipchoge has his sights set on sub 2, I am more than pleased/eager to watch him try
I thought his 2:00:26 or whatever was a riveting performance, pacing and chase-tesla drafting and all
Clearly we need some 'course aids' to assist in getting sub 2h
also I want to see his pacers 'tighten it up' a bit if/when he falters, put Kipchoge on your hip from 35k+, dont sit 5-10m in front at the actual pace and expect him to keep up.... keep trying to drag him back up to the necessary pace but dont abandon him ;)
Eg let him rally for a minute or whatever it takes, have a plan for the low-point when his body/will collapse a little
