Are you serious here with this quote. The writer of this article clearly knows nothing about running. A marathon is 26.2 miles.
Actually, it's 26.2188 miles, although I'm not sure if it's specified to that many digits or how many digit accuracy is required for certification.
26 is correct with two digits accuracy.
26.2 is accurate to three digits.
You might as well rant at those who say a marathon is 26.2 miles because that doesn't specify it to the 26 miles, 385 yards.
Hey Slobro, I hope you realize MAX HR varies from individual to individual. If his MAX HR is 210,averaging 183 is not a big deal. Back in my early 40’s my MAX was around 207. I ran a lot of shorter distances with avg hr around 193.
I continue to marvel that a lot of folks think MAX HR is a simple 220 minus age. That might work for about 1/3 of runners. Get a supervised max HR test, you may surprise yourself.
Some folks have a resting HR of 30and a MAX HR around 150. There are diesel hearts and Kawasaki hearts. Thanks for letting me enlighten you.

Are you serious here with this quote? You clearly know nothing about running. All marathons are 26.21875 miles long. 26.2 miles will leave you 33 yards short of full marathon distance. Your post leads the reader to believe that there are marathons that are 26.2 miles long.
We need better representation of our sport.
And yes, before you ask. I am mad bro!
Can someone get this kid into a pair of split shorts, though? Jesus.

Looks genuine. He faded slightly after about 20 miles. There were no indication of gaps. I'm a bit jealous of his basketball shorts and his heavier frame (he almost looks as heavy as me), obviously very talented. Well done to this kid!
Holy crap. Get this kid a coach. That's super impressive. Pretty sure a whole host of post collegiates in my area would love to have that time.

Actually, it's 26 miles 385 yards. 385 yards is 0.21875. So the exact distance is
26.21875 miles.
Metric it would be
42.194988 km not 42.2km as is commonly stated.
Do not forget the
Short Course Protection Factor
friend of a friend clocked 1:27 for their half marathon off "sometimes jogging along while my GF trained" training plan.
Leif Fredericks, NIRCA legend.
To think I could (barely) beat this kid in an 8k. Bah gawd. Put some respekt on club running.
26 minute 8K is 5:14 a mile; he went out almost that fast and held to it for ~20 miles before fading a bit. This guy must be an aerobic monster. Happy to see the PRC so well-represented.
That course is most likely accurate, I know the race crew and can't imagine them screwing that up. Some years the course is fast when you get a friendly wind, albeit, there are enough turns that you never get the wind in your favor more than couple miles at a time.

Doubt it, I'll go with Mormon guy with a name like that, and from I-dee-ho.
I love this dude’s ‘training’. It’s not really ‘training’ since there’s not much of a structure but he just goes out and runs... and seems to run fairly hard just for the fun of it (multiple marathon long runs and 20+ mile long runs at sub 5:30 pace). If you’re not truly elite (running sub 2:12), you might as well just do training that’s fun for you. If that includes some hard days and at least decent mileage you’ll probably end up running within a few percent of your max potential performance anyways.
very strong performance. also love the attitude, keep it up young man!

Oh, in that case it's opioids.

welcome to the age of metric standards, you're only about 60 years late.
It's high time to end the stupidity though and switch to 50km, where the 2:30 barrier awaits. Kipchoge is right about at that level now.

I second the motion (or move back to 40km where the two hour barrier would be commonly broken).

I'd love to believe there was a chip malfunction but he didn't have any slow splits later on that could "balance it out"
Chips don't malfunction like that... people malfunction. Chips don't report random times. The chips report their rfid code to the hardware, that then reports it's time to the scoring software...
If there was a "malfunction" it would be 1) the kid cut the course and /or cheated in another way. 2) The race was improperly marked and was 60%short between miles 15 and 20. 3) the race timer for no reason at all did an adjustment on the kid's time only.
