She any relation to the late, Alan Webb...?? I'm new here.
This got me thinking of the best runners in the world. What age do you think they will be before 2:44 is the fastest they can run a marathon. We all know Geb is retired, but is still strong. Will he be able to run this time at 70? Same goes for Bekele. It's interesting to know how fast these guys will be in the future.

I bet Dennis kimetto couldn't
WEBB IS STILL HERE BABY!
I'd like to see Alan just run a marathon to qualify for the trials for the hell of it. I'm sure he could run 2:17 or so with some consistent 70-80 mile weeks.

There is no chance. 2:28, maybe.
Julia is awesome! Good for her.
True blue collar worker. Love her insta.
Yes, now that she and Alan have become diesel mechanics, they now qualify as blue collar runners.

I work in the office attached to a diesel repair shop. If this is true about Alan, then his newly polluted lungs have zero chance at carrying him to an OTQ. Occasionally I fear for my own respiratory safety.
Congrats!
Congrats!
And it looks like Kate Landau also ran an OTQ with a 2:35!

You do realize he ran a 27:34 10,000m, right? That definitely translates to a lot faster than 2:28 ability. Even "off" Webb should be able to manage a lot better than 2:28.

Speaking of which, who's taking care of the baby? These two aren't home much.

You're confusing "the past" with "the present." While he obviously has/had otherworldly ability, Webb had to work INCREDIBLY hard to get in 27:34 shape. He was one of the most legendarily hard-working trainers out there. At that point, he very likely could have gone out and run a sub-2:20 marathon with no change in his training whatsoever. Heck, maybe even considerably faster than that, though there's really no way of knowing without him actually running one.
He's no longer training like that, and hasn't been for quite some time. Based on his last few years of results before he retired, I'd be shocked if he could still run a sub-30:00 10K now that he's had a few years away from the grind. And there'd be a further drop-off moving up to the marathon. I agree that it wouldn't take a huge commitment for him to get in 2:28 shape. And I also agree that, if his motivation was high enough, he'd likely be capable of getting in shape to run a 2:17 within the Trials qualifying window. But I don't think he'd be able to half-ass it.

When Webb was beating Ritz at 10,000, I 100% think he could have run 2:17. Come on.
Now? No.
I'm elated for her. She has been grinding away for so long, and her persistence has paid off with a wonderful achievement. Hopefully she can continue to improve and run well at the trials. Maybe this will motivate Alan to take a crack at it as well.
Wouldn't it be something if Julia ends up as the most famous Webb.
