I ran against Abdi Bile in 1200m leg of a DMR...ran 55,60, 65 for 3 flat...was not fun...(except fo first 400m).
John Paxson (Bulls) at a basketball camp nearly 50 years ago
I ran briefly, very briefly, near Bill Rogers in a 10k, he was over 40 by then.
What shocked me most was how physically thin his frame was, I think his hips could have
fit into one of my pantlegs.
When i was 15 i played hockey against Brett Hull (4th all time NHL scoring 741 goals),
he scored twice as we lost 4-2, he seemed a bit lazy, but he was clearly a star in the making.
A friend played against Mark Messier (#3 all time points) a couple of years later.
"The Moose" was an aggressive yapper, and pissed off his opponents so much the entire team challenged
him to a fight after the game. Apparently about 4-5 guys showed up under the bleachers and stupidly/honorably
fought Messier one at time - he pounded them all to a pulp. So the story goes.
Ran in that absurdly strong 5k at the Texas Distance Festival last year. Cooper Teare went like 14:13
Played Bocce with and against NHL Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert.
Two time Olympian Tony Parrilla with the 800m pb of 1:43. On the same track at the same time but nowhere near each other.
I've posted this before in these forums...
Crystal City Twilight 5k in 2013, competed against Ben Blankenship (see here:
https://www.runwashington.com/2018/04/02/pace-the-nation-148-ben-blankenship/
)
I went through 1 mile right next to him. He saw me glance down at my watch, and he asked me, "What was that split?"
I responded with the sad truth: "I don't know, I forgot to start my watch."
Yep that was it, there was my race interaction with a future olympian.
Played hoops in high school against Obama and later became a member of the chum gang.
It was over-shadowed by the prior match with Bobby Riggs but I played tennis against Billie Jean King with the winner's prize being a date with Richard Raskins.

Ran a HS 4x220 relay leg against Bob Beamon too
Peter Norman
But I am not sure he was competing against me
Had a PE teacher who regularly competed against (and once beat) Mo Farah in cross country races - knew him personally as well. A few years later Mo recognised the guy’s name when he came up in a conversation about the London Marathon.
Finished 30 secs behind Ches in cross once.
John Carlos
Larry James
Byron Dyce

Played hockey regularly with the guy that played the goon, Oggie Ogglethorp in the movie Slapshot, even got in a fight with him once.
I was in the elite field with Kipchoge in a half once. He beat me by 4 minutes. Does that count. I was way ahead of the massed but a ways behind him. He actually got second as a guy blasted a 59 low.
Alex Hatz, Martin Hehir, Pat Dupont, Jesse Garn, Merber
Sean Mcgorty.
Also competed against Drew Hunter, but I personally think Sean was better relatively at the the time I competed against him
Met Biondi after he retired...
Some of the top guys I swam against...
Michael Klim
Ian Thorpe
Grant Hackett (trained with us for 2 weeks)
Jeff Rouse
Curtis Myden (team mate)
Chris Renaud (team mate)
Denis Sylantiev
Tom Malchow
Andy Potts
Danyon Loader
Shamek Pietcha (team mate)
Geoff Heugill
Chad Carvin
Takashi Yamamoto
Gary Hall Jr
I beat some of these guys in their off events. Yamamoto made the Final in the 100 Fly in 2000, I beat him at a meet in Toronto that season in the 100 Fly.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
