wrj7@aol.comWhy is the start at 3:30 AM?
And is this group related?

Since this is another stunt, are all the participants allowed to take all the drugs they want? That would be interesting. If NOP doped all the entrants to the gills, and got them to run a marathon. Of course they wouldn't be allowed to run another race again, because the drugs would give them a cumulative unfair advantage against clean people in any future race they did.
+1, this is one of BBs better posts. If they were serious about putting together a stupid fast race, they should put front and center "NO DRUG TESTING"
Okay, I was sure that this was a joke but the contact people seem to be for an organization called uberthons that appears to have put on races. There is a lot of comedy to be found on this website.
High School Invitational:
"High school athletes are fun to watch"
"Athletes may purchase Finisher medals for $10"
BQ Marathon:
"Form a team of 30 runners, and receive a team team - 40mm hexagon legs, full color printing, for use in the Fast On Flat event and other events in which you participate. "
Advisory Council:
"She started my walking career in 1999 when a friend from work asked her to do the Portland Marathon, and after that first one she was hooked and went on to do 22 full marathons."
Apparel:
Airbrushed "models"
Athletes to beat:
Didn't even spell Paul Rotich's name right
And the race director seem to own this company who produces all of his ugly swag:
But there food choices are great!
DINNER
$4.00 Hot dogs, chips, and drink
$6.00 Hamburgers, chips, and drink

The elite event at 3:30 is before the "BQ Marathon" at 6:30am.
The BQ Marathon is most definitely real. Uberthons is one of many well run running organizers in the area. I'd run their marathon before the mess that is the other fall marathon in Portland.
It looks real to me wrote:

So maybe they are using the BQ event to subsidize the "record race"? There are very few flat and fast marathon courses in the PNW, so that aspect is a smart move, even if the course sounds to be likely a boring 13+ laps.

delusional race organizers
Note that every business that goes out of business in Oregon has a pot shop move in to it's location. Also I "heard" that one of their other ideas is an uphill course, everyone laughing after it was suggested was mistaken for approval.

Trying to imitate the sub2?
No prize money but a chance to break WR- the audacity, the nurve of these organizers
Start time is to clear the track for the hobby joggers.

It clearly states that the athletes are responsible for compliance with IAAF rules. Salazar will have to bring a cup and watch Galen pee in it.

Sounds like honest but delusional race organizers. They know enough to work a professional timing system and organize some slightly gimmicky races in the area so they've convinced themselves that dozens of elites are dying to run their race so they can break that world record... Gonna be awkward when nobody shows.
Maybe that's the idea. Maybe they have some ringer that is going to show up run behind a luxury car with a giant billboard attached and set a WR. Isn't one of the conditions for a Guiness Record to publicize the event or something? Someone should tell them that already happened in Italy.
Yeah, honest but delusional sums it pretty well.
I am still not understanding the 3:30 am start time.
Why is that so early?

Maybe they are not familiar with time zones. Every WMM WR attempt takes place early in the morning in Portland. They probably think all legit marathons start in the early hours.

to answer my own question, his name is Alan Rasmussen.
Yeah would make sense if Galen did this. Why not? Its his own town.
Volunteered for an “uberthon” event once so they’re definitely a legit business. I’m not sure if this is a publicity stunt or what but I’m definitely showing up to watch wtf happens.
