Let them help out all the runners if they want. That's amazing to hear. Good for them!

I didn't see anywhere in the announcement that the fluid stations would be individualized.
Typically A qualifiers can put out their own fluids while B qualifiers have to rely on what's provided.
Although that may have been changed in LA - where you could decide what you wanted to do.
Anyone know?
All athletes are allowed to have their own fluids.
Everyone who starts must be treated exactly the same during the race.
Just think if they didn't - and the fourth place finisher was a "B" qualifier and wasn't allowed to have their own fluids. I wouldn't want to be the Referee for that situation.

Ah yes, the Mohamed Farah rule.
Could they be providing different travel stipends to A qualifiers than B qualifiers (larger dollar amount or reimbursement ceiling)? If not, yeah, there's no real significance to being a A qualifier rather than a B qualifier anymore (not that that's necessarily a bad thing).
Also, per the Atlanta Track Club's own blog post (
https://www.atlantatrackclub.org/news/2020-us-olympic-team-trials-marathon
), they'll be doing some revenue sharing with the athletes:
"As part of the bid, Atlanta Track Club developed a first-of-its-kind revenue share with the athletes and committed to cover travel expenses of all qualified athletes regardless of their ranking. 'The athlete experience was the foundation of our bid to bring the trials to Atlanta,' said Kenah. 'We plan to deliver a race weekend where all qualifiers are treated like U.S. champions.'
Kenah explained 60% of any money generated by the trials will go back to the Club to cover the cost of the event. The remaining 40% will go back to the Athletes Advisory Committee of USA Track & Field to be distributed among the competitors. 'This is about giving back to the sport,' said Kenah. 'To preserve Atlanta’s Olympic Legacy, it is imperative that we invest in the Olympic future. The future is all of the athletes who qualify for the 2020 Olympic Team Trials – Marathon.' "
As I understand it, the Trials doesn't usually generate a ton of revenue for the host, but that's still interesting.
+1000 on revenue sharing
This is how it should be. A running organization hosting the Trials in a place where the weather is historically pretty good and they're going to try to pay for lodging/travel expenses for ALL qualifiers. This is great.
Atlanta is a hilly place.
This will not be flat and fast.
That's great.
Course is going to be hilly as f***. Let's make sure it doesn't beat up our top 3 too badly.
As a native, I'm proud that Chattanooga was the runner-up. If the success of recent Ironman competition is any indication, I think they would have put on a fantastic event (I think the same parent group would organize). That said, hearing about ATC's commitment to supporting the athletes, I think USATF made a good decision. Afterall, it is about the athletes!!
Sounds like Kenah obviously caught a whiff of the discontent from our last Trials and is addressing those issues. Last saw the Marathon Trials in NY for 08 and excited about the prospect of attending these, esp. if it's an especially spectator loop course like NY was. By scampering across Central Park, you could catch the runners twice on each loop AND see the finish.

The issue is that while thr historical averages are pretty ideal, the spread if temperatures in that time if year can be huge. Highs couls be 20 up to 80. It could be hot and sunny, or it could be snowing during the race.
Hopefully, it will be nice.

I hope it does. I'd like to see certain fairy flat course prize money chasers broken on the hills. Run a men's race. I'm tired of London this, Chicago that, drop out if its tough.
Like LA, right?

It is February, plenty of recovery time for July/August...

I remember in 2000 the women's trials were in South Carolina in February and it was unseasonably warm which probably played into Christine Clark winning and being the only woman to represent the US that year.
Similar thing in Pittsburgh for the men--unseasonably warm weather.
Happy for Atlanta though...

I have some questions and comments:
1. We will first need to "Rupp Certify" the course before it's official.
2. Will I be able to be in a van next to Galen the entire race?
3. I want full disclosure to the clowns on LetsRun that "cooling" hats can be provided to Rupp at each aid station.
4. Since Galen is the best, he will have his own table at each aid station.
5. I case of "non--Rupp certified" weather, we reserve the right to push back the race 1 or 2 days.
6. Army Kenyans not allowed.
This is getting old. Remember LA trials '16?
Can we just agree Rupp is a 2:04 guy and only qualify 2 more?
