I am almost 40, live in Dallas, and have been priced out of buying a house. I've decided I'm okay with that. I'm single and live alone, so I don't need a house. My small apartment meets my needs.
I accept that in a capitalistic society, there are things I can afford and things I can't. A house is on the list of things I can't.
Besides, my employer could downsize or sell out any time, and who knows where my next job might be? I don't want to be tied down to a house in that case.
And I don't want to spend all weekend mowing, painting, fixing, ect.
Finally, between my job and running, I'm rarely at "home" anyway, so it's just a place to sleep at night.
I'll probably be a renter for life.
