Numbers don't lie. Sarah ran faster at 1500, 5000,'and 10,000 in college.

32:51:17
Which Mark did Desi run faster than at ASU?
Yes I am a Big Sky fan but that doesn't change the numbers.

I'm a sophomore in college and not very knowledgeable about history of the sport but wtf did Desi run in College? Was it really slower than Sarah? What did she do to get so good? Has there ever been drug accusations?
32:50 and her Boston performance indicate low-2:30s fitness (plus mental tenacity+). With a few years of focused training definitely sub-2:30, maybe even mid-2:20s. Any smart sponsor would pick her up. She already is almost as well-known as Gwen Jorgensen or Desi and younger and better-looking, with seemingly a pleasant personality and obvious intelligence based on her profession. I would guess a solid five-figures plus bonus incentives. Her coaching is already in good hands, which is huge plus.

I happened to see that movie today and the ending was sad, so sad.
It reminded me of when my spouse passed away.

Her Instagram is up guys
1k followers, she had it in private couple of days ago
I for one admire Sarah Sellers. She knows how to Sell herself(this is a witty pun). She told me that I'm her favorite poster on letsrun. Of course some idiot who has been given to much control here, deleted her thread last week.
Celebrating mediocrity seems to be the new American way.

Yeah, they should do a Jersey Shore type program but with a training house full of runners.

And you’re not even mediocre. I’d worry about you.

Sarah made the decision coming out of College to be a nurse. Desi made the decision to become a professional runner.
Sarah was a better collegiate than Desi. She just made different choices.
Sellers was a pretty darn good in college - total star at the conference level - but I'd argue Sellers was not a better collegiate athlete than Desi. Yes, she ran aster but wasn't better.
Her PBs were been faster but the game had shifted. . Desi a) made it to NCAAs in track and b) was an NCAA all-american in cross country. Sellers did neither of those.
What you want as a coach is talent. As a sophomore in college, Desi ran 16:17, Sellers was in the 16:40s. Desi went sub5 in the 1600 as a freshman in HS. I can't find Sellers' HS pbs.
I think Sellers track times indicate she can be a low 2:30s marathoner (maybe high 2:20s marathoner- she was close to Becky Wade at NCAA regionals one year). Desi has proven herself to be capable of running under 2:25.
The facts are Sellers finished only 16 seconds ahead of Krisa Duchene and 25 seconds ahead of Rachel Hyland. Can we stop the madness of talk of Sellers being the next big thing? She's a GREAT GREAT story but if 14 more people had dropped out, would we all be talking about how 15th placer Margaret Vido (2:50:11) was going to dominate for years to come. The fact of the matter is Sellers ran 2:44. Yes I know it was cold as hell, but that''s nearly 30 minutes off the world record.
And yes I know she broke her foot.
I don't get the whole whiskey thing. That would wreck havoc on fluids and hydration levels in the body
Instead of being based on looks or a bad agent, it could also be that Sellers is willing to talk to anyone that contacts her while Desi is already established and not looking for more exposure. Some people want more money and attention. Some people know when they have enough money or attention. An agent can work to filter out the fluff exposure you're not interested in as much as it can find gigs for you.

Lol. A nurse anesthetist salary is in the six-figures.

You're confusing sipping a snifter of whiskey every once in awhile for the pleasure of the taste and experience with pounding a fifth of Jack twice a week.
Just surprised not to have seen this mentioned on Letsrun. I wonder if this limits how relatable she is to the general public and whatnot - no drinking, coffee, etc. On the other hand, helps enforce the idea that she's clean (not that I had questions).

Don't drink too much whiskey, and have a glass of water afterward. It has near zero hydration impact if you can control yourself. Probably a better vice, in moderation, than donuts or some other fatty/sugary food item.
Same reason why Maria Sharapova got paid $60 mil/year and only won 1 or 2 Grand Slams, while Serena Williams has won 25+ Grand Slams and hasn't made that much in her entire career
Well, as has been pointed out.
1) Big " Jack and the Giant" element.
2) Huge surprise factor. e.g. Before the race, nobody would have been shocked to see Desi near the front. But, before the race, nobody - outside of her immediate friends/family - had even heard of Sarah.
3) Has - in modern times - a complete unknown ever finished second?

1) no comment, and not even sure what it means
2) she was known in Utah and Mtn West and NCAA; a 32:50 in college is noteworthy. Her name change added to obscurity.
3) A relatively unknown (outside of New England) 21 year old DIII college student won the thing in 1979 with a 2:35. That'd be Joan Benoit. She became well known because of and after that feat.
Hope she keeps going, stays healthy, and gets that low or sub 2:30 someday.

The heck did you get those numbers? Serena has over $80million just in prize winnings over her career and she makes over $20million/year in endorsements. She was the only woman on the most recent highest paid athlete list from Forbes. Sharapova's peak was in the high $20millions/year before the drug stuff, and she's won 5 grand slams while Williams has 23.
You got literally zero of the numbers you provided correct. Probably there was some point to be made about marketability even with the real numbers, but you come across as a total moran instead.
