LRC note: Track and Field News recognized Sydnee Maree 's 3:35.30 from 1981 as the collegiate record as it was run during the collegiate season. However, Jim Ryun ran 3:33.1 in 1967 as a collegiate sophomore in the summer after the NCAA meet but while a collegiate athlete. That's the collegiate record in our book. Race went out in 55 and kerr holds on to break 37 year old record. And Justin Knight shows his speed with 3:36 in second
-
Kerr is starting the year off strong! Justyn Knight had no chance and ended up more than a second behind.

I thought Knight was the next big thing. The superstar. What happened?

Knight is most likely going to end up more of a 5k/10k guy. He just ran 3:36, many years that would be the fastest collegiate time for the year. I wouldn't say he is shaping up to be a failure. Let's wait and see what he does. -
How is 3:35 the college record? Didn't Jim Ryun run 3:33 as a college sophomore?
-
Knight broke his PB by 3 seconds, I'll think he'll be alright lol

No collegiate record though. -
Has to be in season - his 3:33 was July 8th

Didn't Lagat run 3:30 whilst in college?
I don't see how Jim Ryun is the holder of any collegiate records unless you twist the rules to make it so.
Either it's Kerr for running the fastest time in the NCAA season as defined by the NCAA.
Or it's Lagat for running the fastest time as a college athlete.
I don't see where Ryun comes in at all? -

Was Lagat still on the team after the 1999 track and field championships? -

Knight is now 7th all time on NCAA 1500m list. How high on the list do you expect him to be? He is a 5000m/10000m guy.
Olympic/WC 1500m medalists like Centro, Manzano, Lagat... did not run as fast as Knight during their NCAA career.
Other distance NCAA all time greats such as Ches, Lalang... also never ran that fast while in College. -
And Ryan Hill is done!
-
You know your records are weak when someone has run a mile 8 seconds slower than your 1500m record.

lol. Here come the Knight apologists. Clearly, by the way you people put Knight on a throne and threw all kinds of hyperbole around when talking about him, he should be 1st on the NCAA 1500 list by a wide margin.
Knight is a 1500/5000 guy. He's run many more 1500's than 10000s. The other guys just didn't have a monster like Kerr to pull them to a 3:36 -
By how much did Domanic & Prakel PR? I don't think they were close to 3:36 before either.
