GEEZ, I was trying not to reveal too much of the identity. Yes, i promise, this is a NATIONALLY top 5 runner. Why would I lie? I'm trying to get some information/advice from a bunch of unidentified blog readers, hopefully some coaches, recruited runners, parents.
OK - Won BIG state championship last year. started talking to schools then. All big schools, mostly western states. races prior to the big championship were good but nothing spectacular. Started coming into the top ranges late Jr. outdoor season. We assumed people thought it might be a fluke. One university said they only had a few thousand - that the rest had been given away - in November, as early signing was the goal. Stanford was in play but wanted an early decision application with no promise to help get in and that would have stopped all others; so we decided not to take the chance and do visits at the other interested schools. GPA isn't great but had an great SAT score so acceptance there was going to be iffy. Current choice is a good prestige school, low acceptance rate, familiar and the visit nailed it down. Only verbally committed because they said they had no money $0 but did guarantee admission. You don't sign without an offer, remember?
Since then has won some BIG national races. PR is in range for NCAA scoring. Will be one of the best on the team in events. They are now wanting a signed NLI for "books". it's just to lock us down i know. I feel it is very low but will be hard to convince my athlete to go elsewhere.
I have been trying to ask around. Local coaches say it's crazy not to get anything. I've been reading this blog. Some have said big schools have no money. That's why I'm asking.
