Galen Rupp issues statement after dropping out of Boston Marathon

Galen could have easily chosen not to publish any statement and he would have been ripped to shreds just as he is here.

When does it stop? Seriously, when ...does...it...stop.

Rupp was obviously disappointed and sadly enough, because of the pressure he receives from so many, he does have to be measured about what he says or reveals.

I do think there were initial sour grapes and I do not think that Rupp is an ideal picture of sportsmanship, but one always has to wonder why you love one native Oregonian (Prefontaine) and yet, constantly slam another (Rupp).

Prefontaine had his share of sour grapes too after placing fourth in the race that Viren won in the Olympics. Funny how Prefontaine was forgiven during his running time for his outbursts or pouting, yet we can't forgive Rupp at all?

Look, we all have our suspicions about Nike Oregon Project. Many gather that Alberto Salazar has rubbed them the wrong way. But Rupp is Rupp. We label him for his failures but the fact that he even TRIED a triple in the Olympics involving a marathon, as well, is nothing short of amazing.

We like to think these weather conditions at Boston existed in a vacuum. They did not.

Ideally, Rupp could act more mature. He could be more gracious in defeat or victory. However, the way to show him how to be is by being that way yourselves. Have you tried?

People are fed up with NOP. Their Head, salaTsar, is transparently unscrupulous. I once met with him in an athlete capacity, we got to talking about Pre of course, I mentioned Virens dominance and alleged cheating, he stopped me mid sentence and with a smug sinister smile made emphasis to assure me that any enhancement viren was involved in, Pre was also. He was highly adept a redirecting conversation back to his or Rupps achievements. I felt dirty after that meeting.

Does anyone remember Rupps freshman year at Oregon when he was slightly above mediocre. I watched, at that time often cheering him on, as he struggled in every race. Now he's

If I were Rupp, I'd had tweeted a photo of me in a hospital bed under a thermal blanket with an oxygen mask on giving the thumbs up.

Rupp is one of the most iconic American runners. It would be nice to see that he could help grow comraderie among American super stars. Actually, my neighbors lawn looks like a golf course and I complement it frequently.

When you tell me to shut up, it has the opposite effect. I perhaps now feel the need to inform you why the contempt exists for Galen. Galen is a supreme narcissist, as is Alberto. They are thoroughly unlikeable people who are only in it for themselves. Like Lance they will cheat and strategize in a thoroughly Machiavellian manner, moreso Alberto than Galen but Galen gets no free pass anymore, which he may have gotten as a teenager. When you make a deal with the devil, you see what happens. They are public figures and they have cheated to attain glory. I applaud them for having gotten away with it. Congrats. However, this type of character cannot accept adversity. That is why they cheat in the first place.

The fact that he tried a triple involving a marathon shows an incredible amount of arrogance.

Have you ever tried to stay awake three consecutive days without sleeping unassisted by substance? You probably haven't, in fact you wouldn't even consider an attempt, and if you did, yo would struggle most likely unsuccessfully.

Take the same scenario: 3 days no sleep but you can use Aderol. Not only would the aderol assist you physically, but it would give you the confidence to attempt something so absurd without thinking twice

He needs to hang up the racing flats and move his attention to losing his virginity. That bank robber mask at Boston was not the way to rip a v-card.

Desi criticized NOP just days before Boston. He shouldn't have to congratulate her. And if he mentioned Kawauchi-san by name, it would be too rude to Desi. Hence, "winners"

Galen should have a press conference so that he can congratulate those BIG winners whose names are now part of running history: Desi, Yuki and Josh Cox!

I don't think anybody who has sufficient experience and knowledge of Rupp is psycho for their opinion of the guy, but, for us who have only that statement? In itself a perfectly polite, pro forma-yet-personal follow up to his performance at that event.

I don't know why Rupp congratulated the winners -- Desi has been poisoning the well against him and other runners and never congratulates him on any of his historic performances. Reciprocation is required for any good-faith interaction, so Rupp made a mistake here. He should have said nothing -- which is still more gracious than his haters since they typically cast aspersions instead. Same for Hasay. They need to stay in their lane and pay their attackers no mind.
