My feet are a bit wider than what I guess would be "average", but I'm somehow ok in the Boston 6 without having any issues. I find the upper stretchy enough that it doesn't strangle my feet or cram my toes together.
Have you tried the Nike Zoom Elite 9? I had a chance to try them at a shop last week and they felt super comfortable with the socks I was wearing (some average Puma socks from the discount rack). The last is shaped like the Streak but a bit wider. Can't say more about the Elites since I only ran inside the store.
My feet are wider too and I fit in size 13 Boston 6, Supernova, and Energy Boost. These are just a little longer than I prefer but are okay. I have over 600 miles on the Supernova. I ran 3 marathons a some training runs in the Boston 6.
I did have to switch to some older Nike's for a week or two once when the corner of my large toe hurt for some reason. I was able to switch back to the Adidas Supernova and run a marathon in the Boston 6 after that with no pain in the toe.
There are many shoes that do not have a wide enough toe box for my feet but somehow these Adidas models fit.
I also tried on some Nike Zoom model that was very comfortable but I did not buy it partially due to the higher price at the time.

Help me out, I'm 60 years old, I ran competitively in high school , college and I little bit on the circuit back in the day . Probably average 75 miles a week. I had no shoe rotation. I found a shoe that worked and stuck with it. Why does anyone need a shoe rotation these days?

Marketing.
But on a less cynical level I also think there's more good, different shoes out there than there used to be. So rather than having a narrow spectrum of shoes on the market that end up being used for all types of training, there are shoes that better fit the varied types of training people want to do. Plus I think people like to have a rotation to extend the life span of their shoes.

Buying shoes can be addictive. The rotation part is just good excuse

Not a big fan of the normal VF, I went through 1 1/2 pair, but found that it was really an ongoing love/hate relationship. Some days they would feel nice, and other really clunky.
Racing: If serious, for anything above 1500, most likely 4%. I keep a fresh pair for key races and run the occasional tempo or 5-10k reps in an older pair. They hold up remarkably well and save the legs a bit.
Before that, LT3 up to 10k, LT2 on HM and Streak 6 for M
Hey RoJo and WeJo ... don't you think that this would be a better way of doing shoe matching then reviews? I find it hard to figure out what people's reviews mean, but it's easier to see what the same type of runner wears for different type of running.
