The quote about 10min/mile pace is from Ryan Sandrock's "Running with the Champions" book (I think that's the title). It has a chapter on about a dozen plus elite athletes that discusses their careers and training and reflections. The last chapter is on Morceli.
To reproduce from the book, this is what his training looked like at Riverside CC under Coach Ted Banks:
S: 60-75 minutes at 6:30
M: one hour hard on road
T: easy how easy ? "as slow as 10 mpm"
W: Intervals 10-12x400@ 55
T: easy how easy ? "as slow as 10 mpm"
F: fartlek strides
S:easy
So again, the contrast of very hard and very easy. I've heard from several people who have seen him train (or trained with him) that even though he is coached by his older brother he still maintains this slow easy days/very hard track days distinction. Like a typical easy day for him a month before his first meet (May) would be 6M in the morning on the track at something that slow. Then come back in the evening and repeat that. You wouldn't think it was him running with the joggers like that until you saw him the next day doing repeat 400s in 54 or so...
And if you're really bored you should check out the Morceli Home Page which is the oldest website devoted to a track athlete and probably the most comprehensive as well :)
