There is no resemblance and no history, not even a nod to it. The solution is to keep the current stadium and build the new one right next to it (like Texas A&M is currently doing). The historic stadium can be the warmup track for the new one with the big swoosh on every square inch of it.
Build the new stadium on top of Hayward. I am sure some elevated support beams could support the thing. Nothing more complex than the upper deck of a bigger stadium.
Top level: the flashy new stadium
Bottom level: old Hayward as a warm-up track with a super cool subterranean vibe
Done and done.
