Pay her $15k out of the BAA profit. That sends the correct message. BAA just has to confirm she she hit the timing points, and look at photos of her running the course. The "elite" payouts would not be affected.
If you make exceptions from the rules as their written, or propose a change to the rules, elite women will start in corral 1 in order to have male pacers. No women would want to start alone in the elite start. It would totally ruin the women's race in the long term and the racing dynamics. This isn't a time trial, it's a race.
bigger question did she apply for the elite women's race and then told "no thank you" only to then run in theory a result that would get her 15K? but correct. can't be changing the rules.......unfair to have women run with male pacers in order to run for prize money (and to a lesser extent, tougher to find out who your competition is when running a mixed race)
one more thing of note.....not sure she would have run this time by running in essence a solo 26.2 mile time trial like most of the women in her pace range usually do - especially in the extreme conditions
Her PR going into the race was 2:53, presumably you need to have run the OTQ to get in to the elite field. Ironically she still hasn't run that, although apparently top 10 at IAAF gold label marathon should also qualify you so maybe she is now elite.

You can't apply to the Boston Elite Field. If you aren't a huge star then you get invited after you apply for a normal entry. In this case, she should get paid. Not her fault they didn't give her a spot.

You can apply. If she tell them she wanted to get in the elite field, they would have let her in.
It's a challenge, because usually fast women want the elite start for the warm up area. Although slower women would want the company. I could see where she thought she wasn't fast enough to pull it off.
Boston shouldn't pay her. Maybe oiselle or someone can.
still fair.
Pretty incredible performance. Those Chichesters are pretty good at the Boston Marathon.
Brother Tim Chichester came in 11th at Boston in 2012.
Don't worry, the token gofundme page a friend will start will net her a good deal more, maybe even more than the winner.

I was just going to say, remember this post:

For real though, this is wild. They're from a tiny town in upstate New York and have both had the races of their lives on the tough days at Boston. Blue collar as hell.
Maybe somebody should petition all the DNS and DNF female athletes to give some of their money to this girl.

Most NYer's would argue that the Chichester's are from western NY - a distinct area from upstate.

I know, I'm from Rochester.
I don't really care.
They should give her the money. She should then bring the money to her best friends she plays poker with and then share that money evenly. That seems imminently fair to me, as a totally unbiased third party.
5th place Jessica Chichester will miss out on 2020 US OT Marathon by 23 seconds.
