who cares, Billy-Bob?
She says she paid her own entry. Obviously got no travel assistance.
Wonder if BAA will reimburse her expenses? They should.

DuChene? She's the second fastest Canadian all time, has run 2:28:xx. Ran the marathon in Rio.
Tough as nails, former hockey player and Mom of three. She broke her leg in the middle of the Montreal half marathon and hopped all the way to the finish.
Weirdly enough I was at that race -- went through a phase of running a lot in Canada -- and thought OMG, what a tough broad. Learned more about her after that, and I became one of my favorites, even though not many others knew her.
So awesome to see her triumph in 3rd here.
I mean she became one of my favorites ... I am definitely not one of my favorites.
I think she came in 2nd too, even though she might have been in the lead when the injury happened.
Odd. The Brojos merged threads but lost this post about Sara's coach. None other than Paul Pilkington, the famous 1994 LA Marathon rabbit who kept on going and won the race. It looks like he has Sara well trained to run her pace and keep on going. :-)

There's got to be a photo of her where she doesn't appear to be swatting at nargles.
Her interview was very down to earth. Now if only wejo could interview better. All leading questions amount to "Why did you suck until now?"

AFP is obviously misled into thinking this is a "running news" website...
An unknown runner from Arizona celebrated a $75,000 (60,500-euro) payday
75000$ minus the tax bite.

I agree. The interview was painful. Zero flow to the conversation.
39 seconds in, "So what was your college career like? Were you just hurt all the time?"
Just because we didn't hear about her on the national stage doesn't mean she was injured.

However even more crazy was that the rest of the women's top 5 has names we've never heard of.
Sarah Sellers 2nd in 2:44:05 (she's not listed in the women's elite field but she did start with bib F42)
Krista Duchene 3rd 2:44:20 (she's from Canada and listed in field)
Rachel Hyland 4th 2:44:29 (not listed in field)
NIcole Dimercurio 5th 2:45:52 (not listed in field).
2:28 marathon Canadian record holder, 1:10 half marathon. (Second-fastest Canadian times ever in both.)
Competed in Rio: 35th in the marathon.
She's 41.
Ran in shorts and singlet (plus hat and arm-warmers) rather than a ridiculous jacket. Canadian tough.

Arthur Digby Sellers.
Are you referring to the screenwriter of Branded?
If I recall, he wrote the bulk of the series.
So she should decline the winnings? She got to the race on airport runways and roads paid for with tax dollars. Police ensure that she can safely run. She enjoys an infrastructure where she can turn on the tap any time and actually safely drink the water. She can safely eat food bought at the grocery store because the FDA keeps poisons out of the food supply. She went to public schools. She will receive Social Security and Medicare. All this because of tax dollars. But nobody should have to pay for these services, right?

Why?
She grew up in Ogden, went to Weber State, and now lives in Tucson.
The real shock is an actual woman reads Letsrun.
So her BF husband doesn't run but can run 7 miles with her and do 5.20 mile reps!
I agree. This interview was hard to listen too. I felt bad for her not getting credit and getting fielded questions about what have you done. Some better follow up questions like "who told you, you finished 2nd?" "What did that feel like to hear?" Anything besides, you're a nobody..
I saw her finish her first marathon in Hunstville, Utah last fall. She struck me as a fairly talented young local elite runner who could win a lot of prize money at the local level. She ran a respectable time for a local runner (2:44). Definitely a good enough time to show that she could clean up at the local level, and maybe contend on the national level if she kept improving or had a great day.
She was naïve enough about marathoning that she agreed to "lead" the kids race after she finished the marathon. All she could manage to do was hobble around the block while all the kids ran ahead of her, with the race director yelling at the kids to slow down (yes, I know this sounds like a made up story, but this really happened. It was the most bizarre kids run I've ever seen. I have no idea what the race director was thinking.)
Anyway, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought she would be winning 75K in Boston 7 months later.
I think from her demeanor in the interview that she is still in shock, it hasn't yet set it. Her husband seems more excited than her.
