5K: 19:17 (2:42 pace -- and first 5k is a big downhill). Daska and Deba Deba pushing a little bit and the pack thinning out a bit though the major players are all still there.
Mile 4: 5:51 (24:29)
Mile 5: 5:48. (30:17) Daska opening up a lead as the rain picks up.
Mile 6: 5:34 (35:51) Daska out front.
10K: 17:50 (37:07) Daska still leads. Now starting to pour during mile 7. Huddle has led the charge to catch Daska and they’re together. Daska weaving across the course to avoid breaking the wind.
Mile 7: 5:52 (41:43) Shalane and Desi talking to each other? Linden had been tucked in at the back the entire time until then.
Mile 8: 6:12 (47:55)
Mile 9: 6:23 (54:18)
15K: 56:15 (2:38 pace) Chesir leading a group of 15 or so
Mile 10: 6:20 (1:00:38)
Mile 11: 6:21 (1:06:58). STill a large group.
Flanagan had to go into portapotty.
Up in front, Daska starts pushing,
Mile 12: 6:13 (1:13:11) Daska pushing up front, six others with her, including Huddle and Kiplagat. Linden doesn’t go with it, but she and shalane gradually closing down the group. Did Shalane let her know about bathroom break? Working together?
Shalane has caught the leaders by 20k.
Mile 13: 5:50 (1:19:01)
20K: 1:15:44
HALF: 1:19:41. Daska now starting to push and has a gap of about 30 meters. Daska’s lead now up to about 60 meters during mile 14. It is now POURING. Winds up to 25mph in Boston.
Mile 14: 5:37 (1:24:38) Daska has a very big lead now at 14 miles (80-90m). Chase pack is eight women -- Huddle, Kiplagat, Flanagan among them.
Mile 15: 6:05 (1:30:42) Linden now making a surge, starting to gain some separation from chase pack. She is making a long push. They’re trying to close the gap gradually but it’s still Daska well out in front.
Kiplagat and Linden and one other breaking away from chasers and going after Daska. Lead was as big as 30 seconds but now it’s down to 18.
25K: 1:33:48 Daska leads by 27 seconds. Linden, Kiplagat, Huddle are next three.
Mile 16: 5:45 (1:36:27) Chesir, Linden and Kiplagat, are the three trying to run down Daska. They are separating from the rest of the pack. Now Kiplagat falling off a little. It’s Linden and Chesir who are continuing to push.
Mile 17: 6:09 (1:42:35) Newton Hills starting now.
Mile 18: 6:08 (1:48:43) Daska takes off her gloves during mile 19. The gloves are off! She has also rolled up her sleeves. Chesir and Linden clear of the rest of the field. 24-second lead for Daska.
30K: 1:52:32. Chesir and Linden 24 seconds back, Huddle 1:03 back in 4th.
Mile 19: 5:56 Chesir now dropping Linden
Mile 20: 2:00:57 Daska leads by 17 seconds over Chesir, who is closing down as they clim toward heartbreak. Linden 3rd, 25 seconds back of Daska. Huddle 1:39 behind Daska.
