No way he ran anywhere close to that, but, I also think he DNF'd. So, bad day out.

I like Sage and always wish the guy the best. But honestly I think the only commitment he made today was failure once he toed the line today. And part of keeping your job is doing things sensibly, not just getting it done to say you got it done, right?
Sage isnt a sponsored road runner. Hes a sponsored mountain and short distance ultra runner. He is a total roadie and lives for it but took advantage of his strengths.

I'm happy you are an idiot, but not happy for Sage.

You have a lot of anger inside of you. Seriously. Im very sad that you easily call people idiots online for making mistakes. I will pray for you
no
except his job is NOT to run marathon! that's what you people are ignoring.
His job is to run ultras, he wants to OTQ as a personal goal and as such he is trying to do it while still sticking to whatever contractual obligations he has for his real "job", which again in case it's not clear it's NOT to run marathons!
Wasn't this the ideal opportunity for Sage to place high in a Major marathon?

I wanted to qualify for olympics. Im sure after the weather changed he said "might as well just go anyways and hope for the best"
He*
"Tough day at the #BostonMarathon for me. Had to drop around mile 18...felt very hypothermic. Probably should have kept the jacket on. Huge Congrats to all the finishers in such conditions! Really pleased hard workers and smart runners @des_linden and Yuki Kawauchi won!"
isnt mile 18 the point where professional runners/elites drop out to 'save it' for the next race/no long recovery required from the effort/no interruption in training?
If so why did Sage drop out there? :D
Sage should fly out to London asap and try again. Hope they can let him in. Also someone brought up he is sponsored as ultra athlete, as if it matters. Yuki is not sponsored and works full time!

Exactly. He didn't blown his wad today. He should be able to run a good marathon in 3 weeks.
Smart call for Sage. Great training stimulus. Find a good marathon in the next couple weeks and give 2:19 a shot.
I'm a warm weather runner myself. wrote:

He has to nail this.. not good looking for his sponsers
I predict that London will have a flurry of pleas from Boston Bailers.

Yes, but he knew 2 days ago that with the weather he didn't have a chance at the OTQ, so why run knowing he would acheive nothing? I can only imagine he had to run (at least 18 miles) for some sort of sponsorship or appearance fee reason.

Can he do it? We'll see in less than two days! He definitely has sub 2:19 in him on a fast course (no unpredictable weather, wind, excessive hilliness) Apparently there's going to be major headwind in Boston so it's not looking good :(
I understand that road running isn't his full income in 2018, but DNF'ing b/c of tough conditions just doesn't sit well with me personally. Only in running do you see so many drops due to exaggerated injuires and fear of "what may happen" and in today's case, it was the less than ideal conditions that so many PROFESSIONAL athletes threw in the towel. I wish him well but as an ultra runner, thriving in tough environments is more than half the battle and today was no different. Finish the race.
