The Official Sage Canaday Boston Marathon OTQ Thread
Can he do it? We'll see in less than two days! He definitely has sub 2:19 in him on a fast course (no unpredictable weather, wind, excessive hilliness) Apparently there's going to be major headwind in Boston so it's not looking good :(

Tuck and run baby!!!!
Gotta get in behind the 217 guys and tuck in the whole race to have a chance. -
have been following his training daily and given fair or even just reasonable weather he can definitely do it.
the forecast is really really bad though, VERY strong winds all the way through.... -
Go Sage !
-
He might. He might just do it.

He should skip because of weather and schedule a new race. He won’t go sub 2:19 in this weather and shouldn’t waste a race effort on it. -

His only goal is to qualify. He doesn’t have any specific reason to run Boston itself, so if the weather is against him why bother? There are only so many marathons you can race in a year and it would be a wasted effort for him. Better to save himself. -
Actually agree. If you're chasing an OTQ then so far this doesn't seem like it's setting up well for it. However, I also think Sage has some late summer/early fall ultra commitments he needs to keep for his sponsors so this may be the only opportunity for a while to try and grab that OTQ.
-
He should defer to London, no question
-
He’s going for it. Unfortunately weather could not have been worse ?
I hope he gets it next spring, assuming he doesn’t run a fall thon (given his ultra schedule etc) -
Sage is a baller so even if the time goal goes out the window, he will be going for the best place possible. He finished 16 his last Boston.
-
Agreed. Sage is a true competitor, not a time trial specialist. He'll likely miss it with the weather, but give it an inspiring shot and compete tooth and nail. It would be great to see him do it though!!
-
He’s not going to break 2:20, probably not even going to be close.
He’s in good shape actually, but the weather is just not going to allow the OTQ. If he breaks 2:19 he would have to be in like 2:15-2:16 shape right now, and that’s realistically not going to happen.
I do hope him that he can run his best and achieve his goal though.
GO SAGE! -
Good ruck Ihoppa!

Many people wrote this very thing on his youtube page. Unfortunately, he's just not the one to back down from a challenge and rest up for better opportunity. This may be why he's consistently a B to C level elite. I still wish him the best and wish he qualifies. He's a very likeable guy. -
