I know it's frowned on. It's not like the old days of New England road racing, where it was no big deal to run unofficially.
Here's the story: I flew into Boston yesterday from Cali to visit my ailing 91-year old dad. It is important to see the man while I can. He's doing OK just now, which bolsters me up.
I grew up in the Boston 'burbs, watching the Boston Marathon in person. I was at Boylston Street for Bill Rodgers 2:09:55 AR in 1975, ecstatic pandemonium reigned!
Three months ago, ran a 1:40:32 half marathon (I'm 61 years old). Last Tuesday, had a good workout, 10.5 miles in 1:19.
