Hey guys, I’m watching Kobe Bryant videos to develop a “mamba mentality” I am extremely motivated to stay with them for as long as possible.

Thanks to everyone for the responses and wishing me luck! It’s nice to race knowing that lots of people are rooting for me!
It's a long shot, but do you know anyone in that race (even from other schools) who don't have a realistic chance at making it to the next round and won't be aiming for a PR? If so, you could coordinate with them to pretty much form a line in the front to slow down the pace and hold back the top runners.
Heck, you might even be able to win this if you can somehow force an 80+ second/lap pace for most of the race.
Is thread update?

Field events are running later than expected. Therefore, my race should start in about 90 minutes from now. I’m feeling good and weather should start to cool down a little with the sun setting soon. Most importantly, I am extremely motivated with you guys supporting my endeavor!
good luck from germany. may semenya be with you

Also the next time I should post is in about two hours from now recapping the race.
Don’t look at the clock.
Don’t listen to splits.
They will run slower than usual tonight, and you can hang with them. You can beat them. This is just another race for them, but tonight is YOUR night.
Oh, and the kid from Valley has naked pictures of your sister. Run him down like the piece of dog crap that he is.
Anything?
Half hour Left!!! Super hyped! Don’t let us down kiddo!
One hour has passed and no updates. The OP may have died.
RIP OP
you guys stink at counting it has been 2 hours and 32 minutes since op's last post hopefully he's not dead
I can't wait to see the results of this. OP, don't hold out on us. Also, bonus points if you post the link to the results. Would be interested to see how it pans out for everyone. What state are you in?
45 minutes before the race: I start my warmup
35 minutes before the race: I take care of my business to lighten up right before the race
25 minutes before the race: I check in with the other top dogs
20 minutes before the race: I do some more warmup
I stood around a lot afterwards until a few minutes before in which I did a couple of 100m strides.
My starting position was on the far right side for obvious reasons. There are 16 runner total on the line. Anyway, THE RACE STARTS and I nearly cut off three runners to move to the inside. Lots of elbows were thrown and I might’ve spiked a runner.
200m in: the leaders go through in 37s and I’m tucked in right behind three runners
I’m feeling fresh
400m in: still right behind the leaders in 72 and feeling pretty good
600m in: I don’t remember the time but it felt faster and I was in the same position behind the leaders
Still feeling good
800m in: we go through in 2:25 and right when we cross the split one of the coaches started screaming bloody hell so two runners started to surge and I went with them (I felt a little fatigued at this point but not terrible)
1000m in: the time was about 2:59 so a considerable increase in pace. I couldn’t tell how much we gapped everyone else but I couldn’t hear anybody breathing behind me
I was working pretty hard at this point
I start to sprint at 1050m (the middle of the curve) and the other runners can tell I’m nothing to take seriously because they looked and sounded fresh as I passed them.
1200m in: 3:31 split and I gapped the other runners pretty quickly. My friends told me afterwards that the announcer said that I moved up to the front and “made my move to win the race.” I couldn’t hear anything.
I am giving it my all and that “tunnel vision” kicks in by this point
I ran all out and tried to hold off the other runners until 1400m and I barely held them off.
1400m in: two runners passed me right after this moment and I don’t know my split
Right after the runners passed me I tried one last time to surge and race a fast mile PR. They still gapped me considerably by this point.
1600m: my split was 4:43ish which was a huge surprise for me personally I started to smile like I just destroyed a PR AND finished the race. I moved over to lane two to let everyone pass me and enjoyed the last mile of my high school career.
My final time was 11:15 but I didn’t get DFL (13th out of 15 with one person not finishing). I didn’t look at any of my splits after the mile because they weren’t important. I pretty much ran tempo effort after I recovered decently.
The winners ran 9:1X again with a negative split in a crazy sprint finish which I watched after they lapped me.
I pushed myself in that first 1600 harder than I ever have in my entire life. I am glad to hang up the spikes on a high note! I plan to look into club triathlons since I grew up a swimmer and they seem fun. Thanks to everyone for the support!
Great job, and congrats on that PR!
This is amazing. Congratulations, and thank you for letting us take part in a little of your joy.
This is the best thread since jamin's sub 15 5K.
Congrats! Way to hang in there. Awesome PR. Hope you keep running; sounds like you have a real love for the sport and have struck a good balance in enjoying the sport with taking it seriously. Way to go out in style. What are your plans for next year? college?
Well done sir! God bless you! Great work. Please keep us posted on your triathlons. You are s fantastic runner, and if you swim already you are mostly there.
I don’t know much, can you run in college with s 4:43? Seems very fast to me.
Wow, this was a much better result than expected. Cinderella story through 1600.
