My thoughts on the article:
1. Coach B, as well as Coach A and C really sunk to the level of all of us on the message boards. We don't know who they are and they are anonymously trashing Rupp. Sure you can make Rojo's argument that it is career suicide...but many people who have come forward still have jobs. Every time an athlete or coach rips on the message boards or calls them trash, think about how these coaches were willing to act like us.
2. On the reverse side, props to Danny Mackey, Steve Magness and Kara Goucher for putting their names on their comments. Notice how people who know they are being quoted use a little nicer language? Also, have all their careers been ruined? It seems like Danny has done quite well for himself at Brooks and Steve seems to be doing just fine himself. Maybe there are other ways to have careers than working for the company that you hate so much.
3. Rojo claims this was to demonstrate how elites feel about NOP. I doubt the Brojos are going to get a very balanced set of coaches to return their calls, given this site's reputation when it comes to NOP.
4. Even if 100% of elites hate Rupp, I think it is interesting that ~60% of the Letsrun visitors are rooting for Rupp.
5. It is interesting that Rupp, who has had more resources poured into finding out how he is cheating than any athlete in the history of track and field, has never actually tested positive for anything or really been found to break significant rules. Either we can not catch anybody, or Rupp is the most clean athlete in the history of Track and Field. People are still going on about L-carnitine?? Come on, at least talk about something that might truly give a significant performance advantage. You want to talk about testosterone, fine. Don't talk to me about bolus fluids and L-carnitine when there are real dopers out there.
6. Again it is pathetic how the USADA can't find anything so has to "leak" unproven documents as a political move. Either you are incompetent or you have to admit that Salazar/Rupp may very well have been TRYING to stay within the rules (even if some things they did were sketchy).
7. I am surprised at how all the coaches think Molly Huddle will be the top American. After Shalane's New York win and Jordan's Chicago performance that would be crazy. I hope it happens, but I think it would be a huge upset.
8. I used to root for Rupp to lose pretty much every 10k at USAs for about 10 years. The silliness of the people talking about him has turned me into a fan of his in the marathon. Or maybe it is that he could likely beat any American by about 5+ minutes right now.
