I see your point, but they're bothering me for different reasons.
The anonymous bashing bothers me because these coaches are trying to tear down Rupp's Boston performance even before it happens.
If he blows up, they'll beam with schadenfreude. If he wins, they've already (in their minds) rendered the performance meaningless. This, when the U.S. has no other male (including these coaches' own runners) mixing it up with the world's best. And they get the LRC platform to do this without even putting skin in the game.
Regarding Meb, I love the guy, but he's always acted dismissively of Rupp (remember the post '16 Trials press conference where he complained of Rupp running too close to him?). Now, Rupp, like Meb, has an Olympic medal in the marathon, and a major marathon victory, and is headed to Boston, where he could potentially become the second American to win in decades, putting him in company of, yes, Meb. I wish Meb would either come right out and say: "I cannot support Galen because of everything I've heard and read" or support his fellow countryman. To act like Galen only half exists just seems juvenile to me
