The Missouri High School Athletic Association recently barred two athletes a girl and a boy from competing at Arcadia in the invitational 3200 meters saying that the track and field meets being held in Missouri that weekend were more than adequate enough for them to participate in if they wanted to compete. The argument that they were going to be recruited was moot as they both had signed NLI's to compete in college and had both earned scholarship money to their respective universities.
I however, would've made a different argument; saying that that's where the races are.
Emily Sloan raced Jada Hicks in the girls invitational 100 meter hurdles at Arcadia. This is after Tia Jones raced Emily Sloan and Jada Hicks in the finals of the girls 60 meter hurdles of the New Balance Nationals Indoor Track and Field championships. The funny thing about this is that 5 years ago Tia Jones set the youth national record in the girls 100 meter hurdles at the USATF Junior Olympic Championships in Houston, TX where Emily and Jada tied for second place in the finals.
Athletes at the top of the pyramid in track and field athletics, hell in any sport are going to compete against each other regardless of where the competition is, that is what makes it 'sport'.
