So right now my 5k time on the track sits at a measly 17:41. I began my career late in high school and continued my new career into junior college. I’m in my final season of track (sophomore) and my team is ranked 1st in the NJCAA Div III. I want to be apart of that. I want to win nationals and obtain a ring but it wouldnt feel so great getting it without helping my team.
So to qualify I need to run a 16:53. I have run 2 5ks so far this season. First one was 18:30 (I know horrible) and then the following week I ran a 17:41. I have 2 5ks left and I’m set on making the qualifying time. Any tips or recommendations on how to stay healthy and drop off the 48 seconds i need to qualify? And before anyone says “talk to your coach”, my coach doesn’t socialize with me much or really talk about my goals. I’m kind of on my own as far as a mentor. My teammates who run great times help me out as much as they can but at the same time they’re worrying about themselves.
My PR’s are as follows
800 2:12 (Spring 2016)
1600 4:56 (Spring 2016)
3200 11:00 (Fall 2017)
5000 17:41 (Spring 2018)
8000 28:13 (Fall 2017)
