Here's the thing you lot don't understand and maybe would if you picked Mombasa over Ibiza and Benidorm for you next beach holiday. The population dedicated to running in Kenya is minuscule. Actually smaller than runners in the U.S. Most Kenyans are obsessed with football ⚽️ and know next to nothing about track and field athletics.
You're lying. And on top of that, you don't have a clue. I doubt very much the the population dedicated to running in Kenya is miniscule, but even if it was, it doesn't alter the fact that every high school teacher and physical education guy is looking at every young Kenyan with any sporting ability as potentially the next Rudisha, Kiprop, etc. So even if only 0.1% of the young male population of Kenya was 'dedicated to running', that 0.1% represents the cream of Kenyan sporting talent. The 0.0001% of Americans/Europeans dedicated to running these days represents the sporting talent that showed no aptitude or interest for football, soccer, swimming, cycling, baseball, mma, tennis, basketball, mmma, boxing, and the 100 other sports Westerners participate in, many or most offering a career for the best much more lucrative and glamorous than running.
If Kenyans are obsessed with football, why do the attendances at the big matches attract such pitiful crowds? And so what anyway. Every young Kenyan knows that his only chance at sporting success is to be a fast distance runner (with a little help from the local pharmacist and writing your own birth certificate).
