There is a very pleasant middle ground between monastic poverty and the rat race, especially in a first world country.
A couple who each gross 25 to 35k per yer can essentially do it all if they are willing to drive older, reliable cars, buy a house in a safe but less than hip neighborhood in a less than hip metro area, avoid purchasing all the non-essential tech toys and subscriptions and avoid paying for expensive entertainments.
Don't go to college unless you are going to college for a specific goal/profession and don't get conned into going into debt at an expensive liberal arts school for a generic degree. Commute if you must; do 2 years at a community college if you must and get a useful degree from an affordable school. Work part-time while you study if you must and you will avoid decades of debt and a rat race that will leave you fewer choices and make you reluctant to have kids.
The income mentioned above can easily allow you to travel, own a home and have a family.
