What would Jake Robertson or his brother run if they lived in New York and had 2 young kids to take care of and had to work

I often wonder what would a guy like that run if they had to get their kids to school and get to work, instead of running in the morning. How well would he run having to deal with the stresses of a job, or other life stresses. What will become of guys like this about 20 years from now? I mean, yes a few guys will be able to capitalize on some type of career out of it, but for the vast majority they will be forgotten to most people. I mean, 20 or 30 years from now Jake and his brother will just be some weard white guys who ran fast many years ago. They don't make big money, and any money they made will be gone. And I'm not just talking about these guys. How many people on the site still remember Lynn Jennings, for example? If you do, you think anyone else in this world that is not a runner cares? Do you think she's celebrity? What about a guy like Joe LeMay, or a host of other runners that ran in the 1990s?

Life has a lot of what if's..what if you were born with a bad heart or a region of your brain didn't develop appropriately, and your alternative life had you in a wheelchair? Embrace taking your kids to school or waking up at 4 am to help out a crying infant, we all have our own path in life. Some were destined to become elite athletes, my dad always said, "has to be somebody's kid.." We only know of the Robertson's now because they had balls the size of Africa to show up and make a life for themselves at 18 years old and stick it out through some very hard times, could have ended tragically a long time ago for them. God Bless them both and their lives moving forward, amazingly unique story.

I always think that most people who post things like the OP did here are people who never really committed to doing all they could to run as well as they could, who look at others who have and really accomplished something in the sport, and feel the need to diminish those people's accomplishments to make themselves feel less bad about their own half hearted commitment. He asks how many people now remember Joe LeMay or Lynn Jennings. Many of us do, newer people in the sport may not. Who cares?

How many of us ever know about someone who moves to New York City, makes half a million a year, marries, has a couple kids, runs 3-4 miles on treadmill at a health club near his office and runs 5 km road races in 20:00 or so? The whole idea for people who do things like the Robertsons have done is TO AVOID doing things like that which can interfere with running as fast as they potentially can. That doesn't mean that there aren't other, maybe less dramatic ways, to get to your full potential and there were plenty of working runners in the past who did so. But I don't get the point of asking what the Robertsons' running would be like if they were two of them.
